After going through the dreary winter months and then locked in by the Coronacrud, a new hat hasn't been on my mind much. But now the sun is out, Memorial Day has passed, and the lockdown is slowly lifting. I'm finding myself receiving ads promoting new straws and summer hats. My old vintage Stetson Straw Fedora Long Oval is looking a bit battered (I may try steaming it a bit) my Stetson Shantung and my DelMonico Stetson are a little too broad-brimmed at times for a walk around the neighborhood. So now I'm looking perhaps for something akin to the straw fedora that might be considered a "beater" hat. Any ideas?

Sunbody makes a decent, low cost straw fedora. Mine has a 2 1/2 brim. I had a new pugg and a leather sweatband put in mine, also.

Good to see you back, Fred! I hope you and yours are weathering the storm(s) well. A new hat is always a balm for frayed nerves.

I’ll second the vote for a SunBody palm “fedora.”

Fourth. One great thing about Sunbody is that you can call them up and pretty much design the hat you want. A while back I called them and asked for an oak-colored fedora with a 2 3/4" bound-edge brim and they couldn't have been nicer about accommodating me. Plus, the price was extremely reasonable. By the way, I just saw a number of new offerings on their fedora page. Good luck.

I worked with Mike at Northwest hats on an understated, classy panama fedora. It should arrive next week!

I'll third the vote. Sunbody's hats are a little too "rough around the edges" for some people, but I like mine.

Wow, four recommendations for SunBody in a row! How can I not resist checking them out? So I go to the site and the first hat I saw won me over! I'm now checking out the varieties and will likely have one on the way. 2-3 week lag time they say, so I'd better choose fast, or summer will be gone by the time it gets here! Thanks, guys!
