I lose a lot of ebay auctions.

I lose them because I am outbid. I generally don't spend a lot of money on things.

We were given a tip here that there were a bunch of very desirable hats put up on ebay by one seller. I clicked on one, and then linked to the others. There were about 8 in all. All were very nice, many in my favorite style, and in my size. I began to watch the auctions.

Some of the auctions I didn't bid on came due at the high prices I was expecting.

As the three I liked approached the end of their cycles, I put in my max bids, figuring I'd lose all three, or, if I was extraordinarily lucky, I might get one. They were all to end within seconds of each other.

So what happened? I won all three. One is a vintage Dobbs large brim, and two are VSs. I'm shocked and happy, and a little stunned about how much money I just laid out all at once for three hats.

Anyway, I am anxiously awaiting them, and will post them in the appropriate thread when I receive them.

I remember someone here bid on a hat I would have bid on, but I felt far too many others would bid so I did not bid. The hat sold for the opening asking price, $29.00 plus shipping. It was a super nice never worn early 1950's Open Road and the sellers knew NOTHING about hats....so at times to just toss a bid out there can indeed produce some nice results. I am sure some people just go around bidding on all sorts of things and get lucky no one else bids every once and awhile!

You did good!

Forthcoming...Dobbs Midnight Blue Homburg. Can't wait to see it in person. Reminds me so much of the 'early' St. Regis.

This gem is as good as it gets as far as vintage thin ribbons...the owners stated that great uncle had this bacl to Resistol to have them do the refurbish by the Resistol Company in 1959, after their great uncle had it for a while...and it has been in the box ever since, their great uncle just never wore it after it came back....so it is hard to say really how old this is...but I was lucky enough to snag it for Daniel. It has been in a closet shuffled around but left closed up in the original box...looking forward for it to be here in a day or so...yippy!
