I can't imagine it being softer than my Fedora, though. Should know in about a week, though (hopefully)!

very much looking forward to the comparison

Akubra felt is so inconsistent though ... I can't expect your BG felt to feel exactly like anyone elses

mine is as soft as many of my vintage hats ... I could fold it up and put it in my pocket if I wanted to .... where some of my other Akubras I could use as a hammer

I can vouch for that. I had three Akubras that were pretty consistent with regards to stiffness. Then I received my Taupe Fawn Campdraft, which was stiffer than my other Akubras combined. I now have six Akubras, and they've all gotten softer as I've worn them but none of 'em are nearly as soft as my Cane's Creations fedora was right out of the box. The stiffness or softness of an Akubra hat seems to be luck-of-the-draw and appears to have no correlation whatsoever to color in my experience.

My first Open Road. Supposedly 60s vintage in box. Has a lived in look.

Any ideas as to vintage? Doesn't appear to be marked Open Road, but looks like one to me.

Thanks Fruno. I'm hoping it's nice and soft and I can give it my own style.

As do I.

Yup, I had that one on my watchlist. I'm always looking, but getting pickier lately. It's gotta be the right hat and right price.

I'm new enough and poor enough that I'm probably not picky enough. ORs my size tend to get pretty pricey so I figured this was worth the admission price.

Yeah, when I first got into this, I purchased quite a few things out of the chute. My luck was pretty good, as I still wear most everything I've purchased. I have sold a few off, however. A nice OR is a nice thing to have.
