Well, I'm anxiously awaiting my Peters Bros Hemp Strat I ordered when I was in FTW in January. Just got the FedEx notice it's in Kentucky and I should have it in my hot little hands when I get home from work tomorrow.

If you are in the DFW area, you need to come the the Resistol/Stetson/Dobbs Outlet Store in Garland, TX. There is also one in St. Joseph, MO. Best selection of hats. Period!

I purchased a Royal DeLuxe Racine there in January. I live in Ohio, but get down there on business once or twice a year.

I 'd call it a large selection, but not the best IMHO. it can be hit or miss there, but when you hit it's worth it. It is an outlet after all. The folks there are great and very helpful there though. I highly recommend it to anyone who finds themself in the Garland area.

What part if DFW are you in?

as it should my friend ... and I thank you kindly

it will be my main summer hat since my wife has officially taken over my hemp strat and they are the only two straws I own not being a huge straw fan
I hear you. It was 80 degrees here today so I was wearing my thinnest, lightest felt. I'm not a straw fan as well but I do have a nice OR-styled Panama from DelMonico that I really like and a couple of vintage Stetson straws. I get more straw hat wearing time with this oppressive heat here than I care to, so I relish felt hat days as long as I can. Hope you enjoy he Original 47. Just never looked right on me. Wear it in good health!

I wish this was the hat I got. Stetson does do a descent panama.

I got the shantung version because I was curious about the fold up thing and I liked the shape of the hat, not so low crowned, descent amount of brim. It has some weird plastic faux leather sweatband that doesn't seem to absorb sweat yet allows it to go through to the hat and ribbon. The big problem was that the brim began to droop and lose shape quite badly and no amount of steam or ironing would bring it back. The humidity seemed to rob it of it's shape after a few days (no it didn't get rained on). Maybe at some point I'll try some spray stiffener on it but a new hat shouldn't self destruct this quickly.

Hopefully they've made improvements and Jlee will have better luck

It sure shouldn't. Hopefully the stiffener will help.

That sound awful and not unlike the shantung "stratoliner" I had at one point.
But with an opposite brim issue.
The entire hat was coated in some ridiculous plastic and the brim had the most stupid flange and was like a spring.
That hat is basically kindling to me

Talk abt "stupid" flange and "kindling..." I'd like to kindle my panama "Brewster."

Yeah, not everything in there is to my liking. I prefer the open crowns. The Racine was a find. Another Member on here recently picked up a Stetsonian for $90. And they can be very helpful over the phone.

I see some great Portis hats out there on OFAS. I have yet to find one that fits my head and budget.

landed my first pretty recently and it is among the finest hats in my collection
just superbly crafted ... and unsung and underrated name in vintage hats for sure
