OK, I've gone crazy the past two days. I've ordered THREE new hats in preparation for the warmer seasons (ironic, as we're now getting our first heavy snow of the winter as I type this!). Part of the reason I'm posting this is to keep track of my madness! ;)

I really only bought this one because the ridiculous low price. It's a Stetson cotton linen stingy brim. Who can resist a Stetson “In perfect condition no holes or stains” for US$8.99?

Then, while searching for Long Oval sizings, I was directed to DelMonico Hatters where they will block them to suit. Wanting to see how well they accomplish this task, I decided to try them by ordering a Stetson Reward Shantung Fedora.

And, because I've been looking for a navy blue-ish hat, I decided to trigger the out-of-stock process and ordered a Dobbs Rosebud Straw Hat in navy.

By the time the real warm weather rolls around, I should be set!

So I needed a workhorse hat and decided on this old Bailey 5X. It looks like it needs a good brushing - I certainly hope it doesn’t come with any bad odors that can’t be brushed off!

It also needs a ribbon. Anybody got any ideas where one can pick up some two or three ply ribbon to put on it? @Bamaboots do you know anyplace around our area where I can pick up some material?

I’ll try to work some of my good Thai coconut oil into the sweat. According to the opening measurements provided by the seller this should fit like a dream.

I’m quite pleased with the purchase, especially for 35 bucks (free shipping!). The color looks really terrific.

There are a few fabric shops and a Hobby Lobby nearby but in my searches, all I've found is polyester ribbon that's crap for for hat works. Etsy is a good spot for finding vintage ribbon.

Thanks BamaBoots, that saves me a lot of looking - Hobby Lobby was exactly where I was going to go. What about J.R.’s - do they do any real hat stuff out there or just stock the modern models?

As part of the Huggy Bear exchange, Matt has diverted this hat from a recent auction to my address on this side of the nation. I'm really stoked about this interesting find. A Stetson Homburg in Vita Felt from the 1960s. Apparently Stetson worked with DuPont to develop a new version of the classic Vita Felt for marketing. Vita Felt II? or Vita Felt Part Deux! This should be an interesting story to tell.

Vita Felt II Electric Boogaloo

That might make an interesting thread topic. "How Many of Your Hats Do You Actually Need, and Why?" On the other hand, maybe it's best to not put ourselves through that kind of scrutiny.
:)   :(

:D

I need them all. And that one. And that one over there...
