What hat are you waiting for today?

Anybody ever hear of this one? A Stetson Highway, a fedora, not the western hat......I like the looks of it.....much like the Whippet. It has a 2 1/2 inch brim.......I really like the tan binding....AND it is an OPEN CROWN!!!!
Well one is on its way from St Joseph.....along with a tawny Stetsonian that was on sale for $75.......... That should do me for a while.......

^^^I saw the Highway at St. Joe a while back. It is part of the " City collection" (whatever that is) & I think aimed for the hipster market. It's tapered. JMO. Your opinion might be different.

PS: St. Joe currently has lots of black cherry Dobbs something-or-other if anyone is interested. On sale thru Labor Day.

Just received both hats. The Highway (this one anyway) does not seem any more tapered than my Premier Stratoliners...
Will take pictures next to one of them and the Stetsonian I also got with it....

Was on holiday with no internet so some belated posts.

My wife and I with my business on top, party on the side straw on 14 July (French Independence Day or "Bastille day") family gathering at my late great grandfathers house in Corsica.

I discovered that there is a proper hatters shop in the Northern capital city of Bastia.

They had traditional Corsican black felts and a kind of sailor capitaines hat. I hesitated on some of the straws and a taupe rollable Flechet but decided to save my money for something else.

I then went to a museum and not having a hat, found a surrogate... to work with the kind of aloha shirt.

Raining now back in London, at least I get to wear a felt!

Nice, I have one of these Fine Straw Mastermodes as well. Definitely a very nice high quality boater. Not too much info out there on the company but I believe I once saw a picture with one with a tag that said Made in Japan. I don't have any idea as to dating them either so let me know what you uncover.

I'm very glad to hear it's of high quality! The gentleman who sold it to me on the Bay gave me a most excellent deal at $55 shipped(particularly for a size 7 5/8) so I was all about giving it a try. Another big shout out to @Redfokker for the assist with the tip. A gent on the boater faction thread also mentioned it being from Japan and that it was most likely a 1950s to early 60s vintage. The package is set to arrive on Saturday and I will definitely try and find out more once it arrives. I'm hoping to don it at this weekends air show at my local Air Force base. The red whit and blue ribbon would be perfect

Sooo ... um ... yeah. Don't drink and look at hat auctions kids. Not sure what I got here for my $5.00 bid, but I should pay more attention to shipping and handling next time ($12.38 + $4.00).

Not sure if it had or was meant to have a wider ribbon. If nothing else it will be an interesting piece to have in my "collection".

This bit of info from the web references the store which, I gather, was no more after the end of WWII (by that name anyway).

Salud Santos- Tesoro was born in 1915 in Baliuag, Bulacan. She lost her mother at the age og 6 and was raised by her maternal grandmother , Gregoria, and her uncle,Manuel Pineda a successful agent for American exporters based in Manila. Her uncle owned "Pineda's Hat Shop" on calle Real in Intramuros, the old walled city in Manila, a popular shopping area during the American period. In the depression years of the 1930's, Salud uncle prevailed on her, as the eldest of three sisters, to forego fer schooling and manage the hat shop for the family's sake.

Because of her innate business sense and industry, the shop soon flourished and Salud gained valuable experience in management and entrepreneurship. After World War II, Pineda’s hat store was turned to rubble. But from these ruins rose a new enterprise that fulfilled Salud’s dream.

With support from her uncle, Salud and her husband, Atty. Nestor B. Tesoro, they managed to open their own store which retailed not only hats from her native Bulacan but the whole range of handicrafts from all over the Philippines. Together, they decided that a fitting name for this new venture would be that of Salud’s husband, Tesoro, for this means “treasure” in Spanish.

Thus, in 1945, the first Tesoro’s outlet was established in Escolta, then Manila ’s premier commercial district. Tesoro’s provided only quality merchandise made from indigenous materials. Each item bore the stamp of Filipino artistry and craftsmanship. In time, the name Tesoro’s became synonymous with the best of Philippines handicrafts.

More than sixty years after the Escolta shop opened, the commitment to quality and customer service remains firm. This commitment is upheld by Salud’s progeny who operate the nine Tesoro’s branches in the major commercial centers and selected hotel outlets all over Metro Manila and Metro Cebu.

Like their matriarch, they devote continuous attention to every aspect of the business – from merchandise selection and production to store display and customer relations.

Tesoro’s success in the local retail market is matched by equal results in exports.
