The Buick Blackhawk Concept Car...

Though it's a Buick, I find it quite interesting that the front end (especially the grille) more closely resembles a '40 Ford...

2003 Buick Blackhawk

That car was meant to be a modern interpretation of Harley Earl's famous Y job of 1938, one of the first concept cars ever. It was built to celebrate Buick's centenial in 2003. (He called it the Y job so as not to call it the X job.) Many Buick fans found it ironic that instead of using the iconic Buick "toothy" grill (introduced to production Buicks in 1942), they used the slightly creepy (in my opinion, anyway, and many others' as well) mustache grill of the somewhat unsuccessful 1939 Buick. I'll post pix tonight so you can compare. But yeah, grill notwithstanding, that baby is very cool.

Interesting--thanks for the info dhermann1--I'd love to see additional pictures.

Not too bad, if a bit portly. Almost good enough to make me consider trading in my baby!

It does have that Ford vibe goin' for it, though...

Here's a shot from PreWarBuick.com of the Y Job:

I love the Y's grill with the matching detail on the wheelcovers (I'm sure this isn't the proper name for this car part--sorry, I'm having a braincramp).

Would it be heresy to say that I like the Blackhawk better than either of the two vintage cars? Don't like the color of the Blackhawk though--but they can change that when they make mine;)

Another cool retro styled concept car is the 2005 Holden EFIJY. With a 480-kilowatt, supercharged six-liter V8 engine they call it a "mobster themed monster".

That looks like it drove right out of Dick Tracy! And that color I like very much.
