What does one wear with a leather jacket?

I like the color and although it's not as versatile as black, it still works with everything I have. Anyone know what kind of leather that is? Got it at a thrift store, fits good, second to best. My perfect size is 40 l but this does fine.

Well, I've done this photo already today, I'll do it again.

No mustache anymore.

Leather jackets go good with "newsboy" caps or fedoras.

In the '30's and '40's, everybody dressed like Indiana Jones. Leather jackets, khaki/brown pants, and fedora.

My grandfather, probably just before the war and my grandfather (in uniform), probably right at the end of the war with a friend/relative unknown to me.

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen:

A toast to all of you for having such a fine forum! I'm new here and thought I would add these photos.

This is what I wore today with a leather jacket. It is a Lost Worlds Horsehide Rigger that has had a few adjustments, no tab on the collar and 2 piece back. I have owned a nmber of Lost Worlds and Aero jackets for varying uses. This by far the best "Business" use jacket I have picked up.

The hat's from Harley and one of my favorites.

Really have enjoyed the forum and all of the areas to pursue within.

Thanks,

Wilbur

I am just afraid that if I wear a brown leather jacket with a fedora that idiots will say "Indiana Jones", even if the hat is not brown. I have enough trouble with being called "Inspector Gadget" when I wear a trench coat, which is even more irritating. I sometimes feel like pointing out that it is an insult to be compared to the worst trench coat wearing character, out of all the characters who dress in such a coat (like some of Bogart's).

And talking about a trench coat, is is acceptable to wear a trench coat (or other long overcoat) over a leather bomber jacket in winter or is this unacceptable as one is casual and one is smart?

I would do that... The trenchcoat is a very utilitarian garment, designed for protection above all... Although it looks very elegant, i personally have no problem beating the hell out of mine in a variety of outfits - from over a suit to over a light, including leather, jacket underneath... In other words, it is supposed to take abuse in ways most wool coats aren't. But, I could be wrong,

Just wondering if this combination of clothes is acceptable, as I intend to wear them for a rather special (in a personal sense) occaision.

What I was thinking of was: black dress trousers (I wear these all the time as they are very practical but smart), dark blue shirt, grey fedora (Stetson Chatham) and obviously a brown bomber jacket.

I was just a tiny bit unsure as these are colour combinations which might not otherwise go well but this is the only way I can see of wearing a brown bomber jacket and fedora without looking like Indiana Jones. Would it work by contrasting nicely or would the colours just clash? Remember, this is for a special occaison where I want to look my best but relaxed so a suit would be inappropriate.

Speakin' fer myself, I usually pair up my A-2 with khakis and a 2-pocket longsleeve khaki shirt (my favorite 5.11s when possible, otherwise whatever's next on the rack).

Then again, I readily admit I'm going for the "General Mini-Mac" look...lol

As for bomber-jackets with fedoras, why not? Howard Hughes did it... just don't go brown-over-brown if you want to avoid the "Indy" look--do a search for pics of Hughes with the Spruce Goose.

If you have the combo put it together and try it on in front of the mirror. Seeing will let you know better than imagining it. Take a picture and post it if you get a chance, the crew will let you know if it works or needs a tweeking.

That second to last statement, "The women loved it." strikes me as something I've pondered lately.

I have sometimes felt less than "at ease" with my preferred style of dress, self conscious if you will, wondering what insults might be thrown at me. At work I wear a uniform, so it doesn't much matter, but I regularly have occasions I am at work in "plain clothes" and my co workers see me in one of my hats. Although on occasion I have heard some uncouth slob humming the Indiana Jones tune behind me, it is rare, and I frequently get many compliments. I have noticed many of those compliments come from young women who are not at all bad looking.

My wife is a very beautiful woman, and a lovely person, and she loves how I dress. My hats are not her favorite, but she does love my grey one pictured in my avatar, and she doesn't mind my others. So who am I going to listen to, my lovely wife and other pretty women who tell me I look very nice, or the jerk in jeans and a torn t-shirt with beer stains that tells me I look funny?

To bring this thread back on topic, I usually wear khakis and lace up ankle boots with my leather jacket. That usually involves a button down shirt, or in colder months a turtleneck sweater. I sometimes go dressier, with with dress trousers, a shirt and tie, and cap toe oxfords (brown ones). I only have brown leather jackets, I don't wear black anymore. I find a fedora works very well with either look.

I'm satisfied with it myself, but then my colour sense is not perfect. As for the picture, I haven't been able to post one. My only worry was whether the colour combination will go well. As females are likely to notice this, it is important that it works well. And of course if a light grey fedora will work with a brown jacket.

I personally only own a biker style leather jacket but even that looks fine with semi-dressy trousers and a button down shirt. I usually wear my cheap dorfman fedora with it though because other hats look too fancy.

I often pair an A-2 style with whatever tie, shirt and slacks I'm wearing that day. And if I can go without the tie, so much the better!!!

Also works and looks great with turtlenecks and mock-turtlenecks. I have a number of merino wool mock-t's that I wear with dress slacks in the winter.

I usually wear all of my Aeros with either denim jeans (non washed Japanese denim or aged, preferred brands: Lee Vintage, Nudie, Artelier LaDurance) or Carhartt cargo pants. I very rarely wear dress shirts or ties (as I do have to wear that during work) but instead thin cashmere or merino sweaters and t-shirts (loose collared). As for shoes most jackets look good with either brown or black welted Chelsea boots or even vintage Converse Allstars.

Here are couple of pics of me wearing various stuff:
