What do you want to be buried in?

If cremation weren't an option, I'd opt for white tie attire to be buried in. Top hat and silk gloves included!

As with my parents, I am opting for cremation in order to avoid leaving a gravesite which anyone might feel obliged to look after. (Likely my brother's kids.) I have zero interest in the idea of my ashes being returned to the Old Country (what if I have to then haunt there because that's where they get sprinkled?? There's a reason I got out when alive!) Soon as my conscience has flickered out, they can take whatever they can reuse, sew up the holes, then burn the rest in a cardboard box and flush the ashes down the toilet.... In terms of the burning, going out on a longship like my Norse Viking ancestors would have an appeal.... though I'd quite like my ashes to be sprinkled around several places I enjoyed when alive - the 100 Club, the Ace Cafe, the Aero factory....

As a practising Methodist, I'm fully satisfied that my body is merely a shell, and once I've checked out of it, it doesn't really matter any more. Funerary rituals are for the comfort of the living, not the dead. In terms of what I'd wear for the burning.... I've gone a lot of different ways on this over the years, from leather and denim through full white tie, Highland dress, to what I happen to be in when I drop. At present, I'm thinking the best bet is a decent, late thirties-cut three-piece worsted lounge suit... belt back, naturally, and a decent pair of co-respondents. Hat, yes.

Oops silly me, I thought that the thread was about what you wanted to be buried in. Of course you are right, there's no mention of death. So, are you planning to be buried alive? Great way to dodge the taxman.

Reminds me of the rockstar in the H2G2 franchise who was spending a year dead for tax reasons...

I agree with Edward in the idea that funerals are for the living and that once you're dead it doesn't matter.

Whatever my wife and/or daughter want to do with me will be fine with me. I'd be more comfortable (before passing), though, if they did it as inexpensively as possible. None of us has anything to prove to anyone with an expensive funeral.

That would be Hotblack Desiato, of the band Disaster Area. Best heard from the interior of a concrete bunker approximately twenty miles from the stage. Which in turn was on the planet surface beneath the band's orbiting playing area from which they played remotely. For safety reasons.

I am being cremated, so nothing worn will last. So I am going to request (in Ontario, Canada funeral wishes, even in a will, are not legally binding on an executor) one of my extant suits with appropriate accoutrements. This is because Scarlett Johansen is not likely to consent to my other preference.

Similar here - indeed, as a general rule the Will won't even be read until after the funeral.

My brother and I used to wonder to which of the following entities our old man owed the most allegiance: the USA (he was born in Ireland but came over here as a kid); the Roman Catholic Church; the USMC (WWII-South Pacific); or the New York Yankees. When he passed away we were standing by his gravesite as they lowered the coffin, and I asked my brother if he'd put his Yankees cap in the coffin. My brother whispered,"Nah, we'd be standing here and see the cap come flying out and hear him yell, 'Ahhh, they stink this year!' The relatives all wondered what we were laughing about, but that was him all over.
