Title says it all! What do you like most? The thing I like the most is the Gangsters/Bank robbers. Not to mention, clothing and apparel was awesome back then!!!

I like the clothing. I like the sense of 'dignity' and 'honor' that people had about themselves (for the most part). Seems like there were more patriots in those days. Hollywood got behind the war effort. Not so much these days.

I LOVE the old movies. I like the old automobiles. I love Art Deco!!! I like the way men shaved, the items they used. I like the fact that men werent afraid to be men and women weren't afraid to be feminine. Women weren't afraid to put on a dress once in awhile.

And entertainment didnt 'HAVE' to be filthy.

I like the popular culture, the sociology and how it compares to today, and I love the aesthetics (hair, makeup, dresses, buildings, cars, furniture, art deco/moderne...etc!) The first thing that drew me to the "Golden Era" was a love of silent and pre-Code movies.

Everything you said is spot on! If only we could go back!
Whilst I very much like elements of the Golden Era (particularly clothing and film) it's best not to over-glamourise it. They may have had many things we admore but they also had racism, inequality, poverty and war among other things. Having read a text book on the English law I can only say how glad I am to live in the 21st century.

However, in terms of what I like: clothing, film, sense of pride/dignity people had, cars, architecture, furniture.

I would rather not go back, but I am all in favor of the style. The music too. Pre-rock and roll pop-music is fascinating, and pre-jazz downright foreign.

I forgot to mention the music. Whilst I like some modern music jazz is by far my favourite genre of music. In fact tomorrow I'm going to a jazz festival in the south of England where there will be plenty of old style jazz bands playing.

I'm in this school. I'd go back to visit, but if they told me I couldn't come back because it would mess up space and time -- I'd stay right here. I am happy admiring from afar. :)

The food. Simple, nonpretentious food served without irony or attitude.

And you better eat every damn bit on your plate, because there's people starving in Poland.

Not to get political, but the fact that politicians dressed like they managed their country rather than like they're people who aren't used to wearing suits and are wearing the only suit in their wardrobe. I don't care what party they represent or what they stand for but I wish they wore three piece suits or even strollers like they used to in the Golden Era.

I greatly revere the social norms of the time, a willingness to both work hard and to sacrifice. Maybe that is a naive assumption, but looking at what this era accomplished and how they did it I don't think so.

And they did it with a style where music, movie and radio reflected respect, hope, and an enduring innocence. The boundaries of the world could still be explored and discovered. Nothing was the norm. All of these things combine to provide a nostalgic and simpler time of quality. Which will likely always command great admiration and pride; what I carry most for this era and appreciate and enjoy now.

Welcome to the FL! :)

My answer is definitely architecture, cars, and fashion. :D Plus, I think one of the nice things about those three likes for me is that I am still able to see some wonderful examples of each today. It's like the past has never really left us. Especially with the architecture, I think those beautiful old buildings are kind of like a gift to our cities! The detail you see on many of those buildings couldn't even be replicated properly today.

Albeit more expensive, my wife and I ate at a place last night that's been in business since 1922.
It's called Leonard's BBQ, and they've served the same type food since they first started out.
Amazing...
I liked the sense of style back then, you just don't see it now days.
Shoes, suits, and ties just to name a few items.

I like the way sweatsuits were not seen in the grocery store. That even casual occasions neccessitated getting at the very dang least OUT of your pajamas, into some underwear, and then the underwear would be entirely covered with your clothes, which don't have writing on them.

That "I need milk and bread" then equates to "I am going to dinner with the President" now makes me pretty sad.

The need for details to be important, by details I mean a man tying his tie properly, carrying handkerchiefs, cars having beautiful interiors to match the work of art exterior, wonderful moldings on buildings and just the art deco design in general.
