vintage razors ?

like shaving blades?

I own several vintage safety razors and straight razors, but this is my favorite.

Tally Ho Restore 1.JPG

It's over 160 years old, and the thing just scares the whiskers off my face when I use it. Some of the really thin "singing blade" straights might be able to be honed sharper, but this beefy wedge just seems to wipe the hairs off my face with little to no effort. It was in sad shape when I purchased it, but an artist in Vegas brought it back to life. It shows some of the wear and pitting it acquired over years of use, but the surface of the blade was polished, the scales were replaced with ebony, and it's just a thing of beauty now.

That's a very nice straight razor indeed.

And you're a courageous chap to actually shave with it. I inherited my father's straight razor. A few years back I decided to try it out.

But I chickened out! Resorted to my safety razor, sad to say.

Just past 30 years in medical practice, maybe 7-10 more to go.
Played trumpet in high school band, but did not continue.
Took up guitar age 12 and been playing informally ever since, learned the mandolin about 20 years ago but haven't played it recently. I love all kinds of music from bluegrass to blues, jazz, rock, country, folk, Latin and Celtic.
The wife and I have 3 horses, 7 dogs, numerous cats and a couple of birds.
We like to spend our free time at the North Carolina shore and my wife's family on the North Shore of Massachusetts.

They know exactly what they're doing.
Yes, they do. Interestingly, the green one flew away when I was cleaning their cage back in October. I thought we'd never see her again, and fortunately it was before the cold weather hit. 2 days later she ends up back in the yard and we were able to coax her back into the cage. She's lucky one of the cats didn't get to her. Sorry for being off topic.:(

This is so much fun to read!!

I studied fashion design and I also graduated as a tailor and stylist, but my love for hats tipped the scales.
Fell in love with them since I saw Kate Winslet in that scene in Titanic as a little girl.
So after all those years of sewing and designing went to milliner's school instead.
Fell in love and never looked back.
I didn't even make my own wedding dress...
I do sew for the kiddo from time to time and I finish all the projects my mom and sister start but other than that I hardly ever do.

I have worked for the VRT ( the belgian equivalent of the BBC) as a stylist for a bit. I enjoyed that, but putting together suits for newsreaders gets rather boring very fast...
I have worked as a stylist in a bridal store.
Now I work for an Antwerp Jewellery designer.
I started my own company a year ago next to that.
My joy in life, millinery.
I hope I can continue doing this for the rest of it.
It truly makes me very happy...

As for the music; I used to play the cello... :D

I've owned a small company that publishes greeting cards for close to 40 years. I'm an amateur astronomer and photographer when out of the office.

very interesting Alan

is there somewhere I can get these cards ?... my wife is sort of addicted to keeping a stock of uncommon greeting cards... and by uncommon I mean not made by the mammoth brands

she is ready for all occasions at ll times

This is a great thread. Fantastic idea Anthony. If it's redundant, so be it. A little redundancy never hurt anyone.

This is my favorite answer:

My real line of work is only slightly different: I am an in-house attorney working for a small regional company that finances consumers' purchases of cars.

My days are spent researching compliance matters, advising management about legal issues, reviewing and drafting contracts, representing the company in debt collection suits (my least favorite part... It's no fun being the grim reaper, but there are opportunities to help folks clean up a credit problem) and consumer bankruptcy cases. I also spend a great deal of time helping to ensure that staff know how to do the job effectively and in full compliance with the many laws that come into play. Since I spend my days in my own office, I get to listen to loud music as I work. [emoji3]

Before my current gig, I worked for a similar finance company and earlier, a law firm that foreclosed on single family homes. That was not pleasant for me. I'm a softy. Between college and law school I worked as a front desk clerk and night auditor at the Comfort Inn in Lexington, Virginia. That was my favorite job. Life was a lot simpler in my $200 per month all utilities included studio apartment.

My most important jobs are 1) trying to be a good husband to my best friend and wife of nearly 16 years and 2) trying to be a good, supportive father to my 14 year old son so that I may play a positive role in helping him become the man that he wants to be.

I aspire to be what I like to call an "interestinger". I will liquidate all of my material possessions except my hats and bare essentials. Then, Rebecca and I will board a small RV and travel the world interestinging. We have also considered being like Michael Landon and Victor French from Highway to Heaven. We'll go from place to place, hang out for a while in each locale, work simple jobs, and help folks in whatever small ways we can. I'm going to have to set up a Go Fund Me page or win the lottery to do that anytime soon. Oh well...
