What Did You Drink Last Night?

Our travels today took us to the Piney River Brewery near Bucyrus, Missouri. I was thinking that they were going to re-open today, but apparently that is not until next weekend. They were kind enough to allow my wife to use the bathroom and sell us a couple of four-packs of their "Raise A Ruckus" Imperial Stout (which I had been wanting to try for some time). Since they were sold warm I had to lead off with a PBR while they chilled.

This evening I was finally able to try it and ... wow ... I'm really liking this a lot! Definitely a heavily flavored coffee-stout, but (as this was the barrel aged version) a whiskey finish. This is not something to slam on a hot afternoon by the creek, but it is to be savored with your favorite grilled meats ... or at least grilled brussels spouts. :D

Two fingers of Basil Hayden Bourbon. Smooth going down, with a departing burn at the end. Mighty fine.
Hi, I'm a great fan of Basil. The Dark Rye great also, but VERY different from the Straight Bourbon. The Straight Bourbon is smooth, the Dark Rye has a lot more flavor. There's a "touch of Port" added to Straight Rye and Canadian Rye.

Just a quick add, Seltzer beer ain't Beer, Guinness IS Beer. Just sayin'

I doubt I buy a bottle of that without trying it first. Basil's Dark Rye was a bit of a stretch, but I tried it at Trapper's Fish Camp in OKC before I bought it. The whole Scotch in a Rum casks sounds sort of nasty, Rum is sweet, Scotch is smoky / peaty. On the other hand, you don't know until you try it.

I've been missing my favorite Tex Mex place too. And I just received word a couple of days ago, they will not be reopening. So sad.

Tonight for me it's Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey.

Went to the BIG (Beer Is Good) brewery in Downtown Norman Oklahoma. I had the El Guapo, a heavy Mexican Stout with Vanilla and other spices in it. Then I had the Lucky Charms, an Irish Red ale that was a lot easier to drink. I should have gotten it first, its was heavy, but more like a (ignore insulting comment) British Brown ale in that it wasn't powerful, didn't have overpowering flavor and was just plain good.

For you Whiskey types, try the Basil Hayden Straight Bourbon, very smooth flavor, but with a kick.

I had a Modelo Chelada Tamarindo Picante. I'm used to drinking cheap American beer with Zing Zang in it. The Zing Zang has a lot more flavor and a better flavor. The Tamarind didn't go with the tomato's in my opinion. Not bad, but I won't buy more, nor will I turn down a free one.
