A martini is a gin cocktail.
Somehow, I knew that would get your attention. Too bad JP is no longer around to back you up.

I know Knuckleheads Saloon alright, a blues joint in Kansas City!Where I grew up there were knuckleheads...
But it was good so who cares. Some say a vodka martini isn't a martini at all. But love a Grey Goose vodka martini, in a long-stemmed Belvedere glass, easy on the Vermouth, and 3 olives.
Ummm umm umm!

Well said. I never felt that vodka over gin was staying too far, though many of today's concoctions (Cosmo's, appletinis, chocolate and such) aren't even in the same neighborhood. I'm just not a fan of gin. Vodka is so commonly used in this area when ordering a martini, the typical response is which vodka do you prefer?
I'm down for any of them. Or... all...Take your pick.

Couple tornadoes pass writhing a couple miles, two coworkers and your boss caught in it, having to pick up their slack at work, and transmission troubles causes a thirst... Thank God for Friday night.

If you're in the Oxford area, I found it at the state store there. I'm sure some of the stores in bigger cities have it too.Have to find some of that, if for no other reason than it bears my last name.
