I've only had one wine from Italy, a Syrah.
Cusommo or something like that.
Wasn't bad.
I'm trying to get into American wines.
I hear Oregon and Washington have some nice ones.
A syrah from Italy? Seems out-of-character.
I prefer to have either a Rosso d' Montalcino (chianti-ish but fuller flavor) or a Ripasso from further north.
(wish I could afford to drink Brunello or Amarone, the rich uncles of the above)

Oregon makes some good wine (OK, a lot of good wine), but much of it is fairly pricey.
Washington has expensive wine as well, but also makes a lot of good yet affordable wine.

A very good value wine is the CMS blend from Hedges Family Estate. A blend of Cab, Merlot and Syrah. Worth looking for to have as a good, everyday wine.

Havana Club followed by a dry Martini. Also been drinking home made wine, but made from concentrated grape juice. The quality of kits has improved so much that what I make is better than the mid range wines I can buy. Rioja is the current batch, whilst the Merlot and Barolo are on the last few bottles.

Apparently Canada is the centre of wine kits and grape concentrates. I know the owner of one of the wine kits here in the UK and they source the grapes from the correct regions, ship them to Canada where the process them into concentrates and balance the flavours - I haven't had a bad batch yet.

Production volumes are 5 gallons a brew - yield is 28 bottles plus one for cooking. Price assuming you have all the kit is about £43.00 (~$70.00) a kit for a good quality mid range kit or £1.50 (~ $2.45) a bottle.

Occasionally I put the boat out and make an Amarone, which is a staggering £4.30 ($6.80) a bottle.

I knew I studied Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology and Biochemistry for a reason (fermentation to make beer, then wine is the 2nd oldest example of Biotechnology in history - breadmaking is thought to be the oldest).

Brunello de Montalchino is probably the finest wine that has passed my lips. Far surpasses Barolo and the Amarone's that I have been fortunate enough to try. You sir have an educated palate!

But a middleclass budget. Hence the Rosso di Montalcino ...

That's why I tried it, because it was out of character for them.

Wasn't bad, and what was nice is the fact it had a glass nipple instead of a cork.

Last night was a woodchuck cider and a couple of St. Pauli girls. Probably finish off the beers tonight

It was draught. That's all they had, and I bought it to cook a potroast in so I figured it wouldn't matter anyway. I just happened to drink a few of the extra ones. Tonight I'll be back to the German beers.
