Tonight should include the Rob Roy:

Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 oz Scotch
• 1/4 oz dry vermouth
• Angostura bitters to taste(usually 2 dashes)
• maraschino cherry for garnish

Yes, I use dry vermouth. I suppose in 1894 they used sweet vermouth but I like it better with dry vermouth. It differentiates it from its Manhattan brother better. I also crush the cherry in the bottom of the glass---not use it as a garnish. That relates it to its cousin the Old Fashioned.

Some rather nice cellar chilled cabernet-merlot with dinner.

Started with an entirely forgettable, over-oaked WallaWalla red blend (I know, saying over-oaked and Walla Walla is considered redundant when speaking of wine). But then things got much better, as I finished with a glass of Smith Woodhouse 1995 Late Bottled Vintage.
Those couple of extra years in the bottle have really smoothed it out!

That's what I thought I had grabbed when I got the Shiner Octoberfest. The Shiner's still pretty good, but it's not Sam Adams.

James, I haven't tried the Rob Roy yet and almost certainly won't since it includes Vermouth. I have worked out that I really :eeek: REALLY :eeek: HATE Vermouth. I tried the Manhattan, martini's and several other things including Vermouth. I drink Old Milwaukee when I need to cleanse the system if you get my drift. I've had two twelve packs and haven't tried it anymore...

I estimated a 1/4 ounce but I use a vermouth mister so three sprays from the mister is what I actually use. It just balances the drink and no more.

Ah James, I can't abide Vodka in any form, but I drink Gin&Tonic, and Gin, Orange Juice, Bitters, and Tonic during the summer. I've had three Martini's and I'm done for life, at least on purpose.

I actually meant a Gin Martini. The only vodka I drink is made from Rye. It is a vodka that actually tastes like something so I have no idea why they call it vodka but.....

My dad was up here talking to me today and decided he wanted some Old Milwaukee since he hadn't had it in years. I had about 10 cans still in a box next to the fridge and he helped himself to them and loaded them in his car lol
