Most certainly a kick. We are not huge drinkers but last weekend we somehow managed to drink almost a 5th of Kraken rum. We were totally trashed. lol It was our "date night" and we drank and listened to 1920s and 30s Jazz (among other things. :D).

Tonight I had a cocktail I made up based on the principal of a Manhattan (strong spirit, vermouth and bitters). The result wasn't too bad, if a little bit on the strong side.

1 part French brandy
1 part sweet vermouth
dash of Aperol (in lieu of proper cocktail bitters)

Last night I was at a fairly dull house party and had a lot of bland American beer (whilst the US makes some excellent whisky I'm not too big on their beer) and a few shots of fairly tasteless vodka.

And the night before that at a pub quiz I had an excellent pint of "Spitfire" ale and a reasonable Cuba Libre.

Over the weekend I had my first tast of...
Knappogue Castle, 10yr single malt...
Clontarf, blended...
Red Breast, 12 yr pure pot stilled and...
Connemara, 12 yr peated single malt.

All four were very good but the Red Breast and the Connemara were top notch. I loved the smokey taste of the Connemara.

Someone has been taking my advice I see. :p The Clontarf single malt is a better rendition so don't let the blend sour you on the brand. Castle brands is a decent distiller for the price. :D

Indeed it was your advice that directed me to the Red Breast, thank you. I was wondering about the single malt Clontarf.

Maybe I should add that I got to enjoy these at a local Irish Pub (Nine Irish Brothers). The four I tried came as a "flight" on a sample board. Boy do they know how to serve a guy :D The next time I'm there I hope to try their Top Shelf flight, Bushmills 21, Jameson's Single, Jameson's Reserve, and I forget the fourth one.

Red Breast is one of my favorites. It just has that special taste with a hint of vanilla. :D I have a hard time getting the single malt out here in the stores but I can order it.
A flight is the best way to get the most out of a tasting expoerience if they have a good deal on them. It also helps if they are of varying character to distinguish one from another. That top shelf flight sounds like a good choice. Jameson's Single and Bushmills 21 are definitely worth trying---especially Jameson's. :cheers1:

I'm very thirsty all at once.

The pub just started offering flights at the first of the month and they have severl different Irish Flights, one Scotch flight, and one Bourbon flight. I know your opinion of bourbon James ;)

:cheers1:
