Geez, what did the newly formed tobacco/cigar rights group formed by the manufacturers do wrong?
From Cigar Cyclopedia:

SCHIP bill now starts in the Senate
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
After being passed by the U.S. House of Representatives with barely more than a deep breath, the same version of the SCHIP bill (H.R. 2) was received by the U.S. Senate on Thursday. No schedule has been given on its path to certain passage and submission to President-to-be Barack Obama for signature.
~ Rich Perelman

What they did wrong, among other things, was to wait until 2007 to REALLY begin discussing how to fight this, and fight back. American Cancer Society, all the pharmaceuticals companies (who bank roll the American Cancer Society) selling all their anti-smoking medications that have less than stellar results, have been pushing this for 20 years, at the least.

They also have emotional arguments, and rightly so to a point, about family members and friends dying of cancer, having asthma or whatever. Kind of hard to discuss freedom and liberty in that light.

NOW, the assistant to Secretary of HHS Tom Daschle, I guess he's the under secretary, comes directly FROM the presidency of the Campaign for Tobacco Free Children. This will be an uphill climb, but it's not impossible. For one thing, the President who'll be signing things is still a smoker. Of course, no more zealous apostle than the convert, but he hasn't totally quit, yet.

Be of good cheer, there are bans being quietly rolled back to compromise levels, all around the country. St. Louis, Ohio, other places where they did complete bans, and now it's coming back to hurt tax revenues.

Semper paratus et fidelis.

This morning, after a sweet breakfast of pastry and iced coffee, another (my second) Winston Churchill Marrakesh 6 x 50. All Cuban seed tobacco, a lush blend of filler leaf and an Equadoran wrapper, created with input from Churchill's grandson Winston S. Churchill. Omigosh, yummy.

Looking good there, Spiridon.

I picked up the recent CI special on Bahia Blu Nicaraguans
and they're not a bad smoke. That's what I had tonight,
during a break in the rain.

Thanks Feltfan. My legs were dead after the Marathon and the Canyon definitely "finished me off"! It felt great to get back to the top and enjoy that cigar. :D

Nice pic, spiridon. I can't remember - did I ever tell you my in-laws live in Mobile? (I only mention it, of course, because of your location.)

Cool Beans! I live across the Bay over in Daphne, but grew up in Mobile. This morning I enjoyed a Romeo y Julieta Cazadore.....with a few cups of pressed Turquino coffee. Mmmmmmmm!

Since they live in an apartment, and we have a house here with a guest room, I tend to never visit - I'd rather them come here. However, if I ever do make it over there again, we should get together and have a stogie! :D

Right now: Oliva Serie V Double Toro.
