Wow, it's kinda funny to return to this thread...

I would have NEVER guessed that TFL would have changed my life so greatly.

It might sound a little corny (I'm from IOWA afterall), but I can't thank all you folks enough; everyone from the biggest contributors to the shadowy lurkers. TFL has given me advice, friends, a place to belong and a fiancee. What more can a guy ask? I just hope I can give back a fraction of what I've gained!

Wow, a fiancee. Talk about getting more than you rmoney's worth!

This place has shown me that I am not alone in some of the ways I think about the world. It has enabled me to be able to find and shop for clothing and accessory items that I wouldn't have been able to find, or at least as easily. And last but not least, the level of friendly, intelligent conversation is second to none.

It may seem funny for a person with 4 posts to reply here, but, I have an answer ;) Along with my newly rekindled interest in vintage style, The Fedora Lounge has fueled the fire. I am an acrobat, in a place that celebrates style (and, unfortunately lack, thereof) and have had a pretty... interesting sense of style. My [vintage] girlfriend said blatantly, that if I had been dressed as I usually was, and not wearing vintage when she first saw me, we would have never met. Seeing pictures of the beautiful clothes, and reading the passion around them has solidified my resolve.

I am a newbie here too and I have learned a lot and been watching some great old movies on Netflix. Last week I bought a fedora, this week I got a sportcoat from Goodwill for $8. I wouldn't have done any of these things without FL. I have learned about places to visit too!

As often as I've seen posts from Oregon residents here on the FL, I have never seen one single vintage person here. I'm in Portland, and I have seen only one Rockabilly guy and not one other vintage looking person. I don't know if there are events, I'm a single mom and I still don't know anyone here after two years. So I don't go anywhere... I'm currently lamenting the fact that Brian Setzer is playing at Spirit Mountain in December and I'm not going because going alone doesn't sound up my alley.

If it wasn't for FL I'd go mad from the lack of 40s/50s anything around me, outside of some great old architecture, I'm surrounded by hippies and hipsters, and while I've nothing against them.... it makes me miss home (San Diego) because at least there you see vintage souls all over the place. I get so much comfort of a sort from FL that I can't find anywhere else right now.

I've met some great ladies with like interests in the Powder Room. Even though I have never met most of them, I still consider them good friends and would be upset if we ever parted.

I've learned that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes and that's it's not the outside, but rather the carriage and the "glow" that a woman has that makes her beautiful.

I've learned how to do my hair vintage. I've learned to sew and love looking at the inspiring creations from my fellow Powder Roommates.

I said this 1.5 years ago and I still feel the same way. Except I don't sew much anymore lol All the gals here are gorgeous -- even though I don't post much anymore I'm still trying to keep up :)

Say no more. He broke my heart when he didn't show up to the Toronto Jazz Festival this year like he usually does, but I probably wouldn't have found anyone who had the time nor the inclination to go with me anyway, so I understand.

That's the reason I love the Lounge, right there - Nowhere else can I be among people who not only know who Brian Setzer is, but like his music! :) Like you say, Miss Moonlight, without this place I wouldn't have much to surround me by my favourite eras aside from my own apartment and some lovely old buildings.

Portland's a great town for vintage clothes shopping -- one of the best I've ever seen -- so I would think there would surely be some kind of vintage scene there. Hope you're able to find some folks to hang with there, Miss Moonlight.

Have you checked out Tony Starlight’s Supperclub & Lounge? Not purely vintage, but vintage-y (on some nights more than others, I think, depending on the scheduled event). My wife and I were dressed vintage when we went there and felt right at home.

I've driven by several times but again, going alone sounds horrid. I'm just in an odd situation, no friends here, not interested in dating, don't want to go anywhere alone. I'll probably just let it go and keep saving to move back home.

There are lots of vintage shops, here, this is true. Expensive, tiny clothes. lol

I've been inspired to dress better... in a way that goes along with my hat wearing.

Also, last night I went to a meeting with two lawyers and a realtor while I was wearing a charcoal suit with black shirt/tie and my brown Fed IV, and the realtor said to me "Do you think nice hats will make a comeback?"... as a serious question, not being caddy. She also said that she hopes they do. My reply was: "sure, plus there's a whole online phenomenon called The Fedora Lounge where others believe the same". So... the lounge gives me legitimacy. I'm not type to do something just because it's "cool", or inversely "to stand out in a crowd", but it is nice that there is a community that I can refer others to when they ask questions about my hats.

I live in a small rural town where it is difficult to find products, items, literature, knowledge, expertise, etc. on the vintage lifestyle. The Lounge has provided an outlet for me to mingle with people of the same interests. And I have gained a great pen pal in the process.

I am open to new worlds, new bits of information, great trivia dicussions, awesome photos, remarkable stories, and intelligent and wonderful people from around the world.

I love pulling up to my computer with a cup of coffee to spend hours with like minded people. Being a reporter though, the Lounge is too tempting especially on deadline day. :)

I think the greatest thing is courage to be who I am, particularly when it comes to clothing/lifestyle. I started wearing the hat's I'd been collecting since I was 12 in everyday life, rather than just to weddings and special events. Same for gloves too.

What changed? I know I'm not the only one. And that other people have the same experiences I have. Now I know that they aren't reacting to me; but they'd do that to anyone dressed like me. Not that I like to hear people's misery stories, but it is helpful. lol

I think it's also deepened my marriage. My husband and I were both interested in vintage before we ever met each other, but it's something that we really explored after we married and it's been a journey together. We've both learned a lot from the FL that has enabled our journey.
