Mine was the first piece of jacket art that I did - and put on my old Aviation Leathercraft A2.
"Stand By" was one of the singles by Roman Holliday and taken from their 1983 "Cookin' On The Roof" LP. This design was originally done for one of the band members (who all wore a variety of WW2 jackets) and was seen only fleetingly in the music video for the song and it featured on the back sleeve of the 12" single (and was a 12" picture disc too. Remember those?!). I always loved the LP (and still do!) - and the track is my favourite on the LP - and I just made my own copy of it.
The only way that that I'll consider changing my avatar will be if I get a new russet A2 and put a Mk. II version of Stand By on the back panel; one that I have all pre-designed and ready to go! So obviously I need the jacket for the art … do I need another reason? :)

My dad was a car nut in the 60's and 70's. He used to take me to Cars of the Stars in Buena Park (just up from Knott's Berry Farm). My favorite was the Hannibal 8.

They had 3 versions. One you could sit in while it went up and down.

Mine is my bike. And honestly with a 6 year old daughter I see more of it here than I do in real life. Every time I plan an early Sunday ride I find myself wandering around Target with my ladies stuffing a breakfast sandwich down my throat.

Some years ago, following a film-shooting, recreating the Rock 'N' Roll dancing of the 1950's, my wife and I posed on our Heritage Springer. The cameraman said that the end result looked like what you might imagine to be the sleeve cover of an Eddie Cochran LP. Some compliment. That photo is a cherished reminisce, for the bike, for the film shoot and for the fact that we actually got paid a decent rate. The reason it's not an avatar though is because my lady isn't a forum member, even though she lurks here all the time.

Fantastic! It looks just like like something Dick Dastardly and his trusty sidekick Muttley (those "double dealing do-badders!") would compete against in their "The Mean Machine" racing car from Whacky Races - the old early 70's Hanna-Barbera cartoon - but made real!
Magnificent.

If you've never seen the movie "The Great Race" I highly recommend it!
Tony Curtis, Jack Lemon, Peter Falk, and Natalie Wood: an all time favorite of mine :)

Oh yes, The Wacky Races was based partly on that same film! I remember it from when I was a kid. Good clean fun.

The funny thing is, that was an image I found doing a Google search. Created by Jeffro Kilpatrick, it was created to promote/advertise a Philadelphia Cartoonist Society Hobo Day on June 4, 2011. Here's the original artwork:

I made some changes to make it more generic, changed the flat cap to a fedora (though I do have a version with the cap), and made the colors a little more vibrant, and ended up with my current avatar. Compared to some of the members here I dress like a 'Bo, so I thought it was appropriate. :D

Didn't you have another caricature avatar in the past? I seem to remember one (or more).
