What Are Your Exercise Programs?

Other tactical advice: get to know some other regulars wherever you are, and "buddy-system" it--I'll bet if somebody tried something stupid on Darhling in that environment, he'd probably be lucky if he were "only" beaten to a pulp...

The other nice thing about my "workouts": my usual "partners" are in local law enforcement, so if I feel not quite right about somebody I'll pull up a spot somewhere in the middle of 'em on the line--who's gonna "choose stupid" if they know their target's surrounded by cops with guns already in-hand, and the "target" has one too?

Just for the record, I never thought about this stuff before the "Central Park Jogger" incident several years back. Shame that it takes such an occurrence to make us wise up!

I think jogging and whatnot is pretty safe 99% of the time. A little common sense, and as DB points out traveling in groups will go a long way - a little mace and whatnot can't hurt if your hood is a little dicey.

Of course there's dangers in sitting on the couch inhaling ice cream and pork rinds, so it's worth braving the perils of the streets for a little aerobic exercise! I just mention the headphones cause it seems to be something lotsa people do when engaged in boring workouts - it's just not the safest thing to do out there.

Thank you all for the sympathy on my experiences. It was actually more prolonged and involved than perhaps I indicated (the incident escalated to the point where I tried to fight back and push him off his bike, and culminated in him following me back to my gym). Long story, drama...over. I don't want to be a victim, and as far as I'm concerned, he's just a non-entity of a pervert.

We can never be completely safe. I have friends walking in a group down Sydney's main street (George Street) who were assaulted by obviously mentally unstable individuals. No provocation involved...just a very ill individual. We can minimise, but we can never eliminate risk.

Just be aware. Try to minimise your loss of situational awareness. MP3 etc. players are a great tool...but only use them in situations when you're not spelling yourself out as a target. Make sure someone knows where you're running, and if possible engage exercise with others. And trust your instincts. If you're uneasy, listen to that voice in your gut.

just as an experiment......

I basically cut my calories in half from their normal (which is way too much for me anyway, which is why I am overweight)....at the same time as I upped my cycling intensity.

I mention - cause it's a really bad idea!

a few weeks ago I really nailed the 'eat small balanced meals throughout the day" thing and I felt great, was never hungry and even lost about 1 pound per week.

I basically lost about 3 kg since Thursday night but I felt like a (ravenous) zombie all day Friday and today...starting this afternoon I am back on the sane diet plan.

wii fit

I got the wii fit a few days ago, 4 to be precise and have been using that. I love it. It tells your wieght, bmi. The longer you use it the more "credits" you earn and it opens up other programs to use on the game system. Totally cool and fun. I have also been using the wii sports pack. It gets your heart rate up and makes you work up a sweat. Love the tennis and boxing.

I like my curls done at between 8 and 10 oz. at a time. In this situation I try for as many reps as possible until the supply is exhausted.

Listening to my local country music station suffices nicely.

Regards.

I'm on a similar program, while I don't see big results I find I don't care as much after the "workout".

Well I have finally some great results to post..

in about two months of weight training, not very obsessive, but on average 2 times a week I have lost over 8 pounds, 1+ inch of my waist, 2 inches of my tummy, 1,5 inch of my hips and 1 inch off each of my thighs.

I'm okay except for the fact that I can't breathe....Afrin, take me away!

I think I gained a kilo back since Monday but I'd kinda like to keep this going...I need to lose....oh, say, another 20 - 25 kilos! (It sounds so less drastic in metric-speak) Even so I left the little woman a mssg on her cell tonight - please bring home sorbet (my throat is rather raw.)

And me guns are getting big too

You go on with your bad self! Big guns look great on women imo. I dunno why people are so jacked up about women who look fit or strong or athletic. I for one think it's great.

Brilliant, both of you! Pgoat, never look a gift loss in the mouth! (oh, alright...I know it's not healthy to lose weight through illness, but...). Darhling, that's such a great, measurable achievement.

My weights training is about to go off the rails...I've started training for a race in August, which means I'll get a couple of cross training sessions in a week if I'm lucky and 'on mission' and will have to work weights into that. Not ideal.

Well I bet she thought that husky voicemail was attractive!!

Well, my guns arent really getting big, I am just so proud of I can finally see a fraction of definition in them :D "is that what I think it is or is is just a freak shadow on my arm?!"

kilos may sound better, but bodymeasurements in inches sound a lot better (smaller) than in centimeters!
