I grabbed "Casino Royal" from my bookshelf, I wanted to re-read it as the nuances had faded from my memory.

I haven't read all of the Bond books but would highly reccomend "Moonraker" as it is a really cracking story. So far it is my favorite.
I read all of the James Bond books the summer something terrible happened to me, they were a great help. They were already in my collection as I started collecting paperbacks as a youngster with my brother. Still like to read them, comforting sometimes to be transported into a different suave and violent world.
(Is Casino Royale the one with Vesper, the girl and the drink?)

Yes & Yes. My Pastor and I used the Vesper as the basis of a Martini we like but using equal portions of Tanquerey 10 Gin and Ketel One Vodka, we call it Vespers again after the girl, evening services and Bond. Also this is a fine decompressor agent, good for reducing the cares of the day. ;)

I just wish I could drink martinis with my minister. Unfortunately he's recovering from an esophagectomy. Stay strong, Forrest.

Technically you could drink his for him and still be drinking "with" him.

Be a little "turnabout is fair play" for the occasional spasm of conviction he must have gotten ya with once in a while. :D

The Skeptical Environmentalist - Bjorn Lomborg

Been picking it up and not starting it awhile, keep getting distracted by fiction.

I want to burn through it and have talks with some greenie friends.

I finished King Solomon's Mines recently and am now reading Don Quixote. I was going to read Oliver Twist at the same time, but have decided against it. I may buy a Discworld today... I kind of have a craving for it.

A friend just gave me a copy of this for Christmas. I can't wait to read it.

I just finished The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club by Dorothy L. Sayers. Wonderful!

I am currently engaged in The Construction of Gothic Cathedrals - A Study of Medieval Vault Erection by John Fitchen. It sounds dry, but it's absolutely fascinating. I am also slowly working my way through Latin for Beginners by Benjamin L. D'Ooge. I have a small collection of Latin texts (Caesar, Cicero, Virgil, Quintilian, etc.) and I want to be able to read them.

I just finished McSorley's Wonderful Saloon by Joseph Mitchell. I really enjoyed this book and especially like Mitchell's writing style.

Up next is Angel of Darkness, Caleb Carr's follow-up to The Alienist.

I need that book as McSorley's was a favorite visit when visiting NYC from Copiague on Long Island before the move to California. I think the last time I was there was in 1996 or 98. There was a short film about McSorley's that would be shown on PBS now and again. Wonderful place, especiall y after lunch and thru the afternoon, it can get a bit loud at night.

My dad used to drink there with my Uncle Charlie in the 40's.

Best wishes,

Hi John,
If you would like the McSorley's book I would be happy to send it to you. Let me know and it will be coming your way. I tried to send you a PM but I don't seem to have access to that feature. Maybe not enough posts? Anyway, let me know.

I'm currently having way too much fun with old science fiction - Cordwainer Smith, Leigh Brackett, A. E. van Vogt. Naturally, I discovered this treasure trove in my local secondhand paperback shop in the week before finals.
