Strangely I went into the weekend on 80s anarchopunk...and have come out on another country/Americana kick. I've been listening to Hurray for the Riff Raff and Shovels & Rope. Two very different sounds but man is it something special. I often hate the revivalist country sound (same for other genre throwbacks too) for one reason...it's just a style for some people. There is something missing. It's that these people aren't born for it, they're just putting the style on like a costume. Listen to Shovels & Rope or Cary Ann Hearst's solo efforts and she clearly holds up to the golden era of women in country. Hurray for the Riff Raff is a mellow Americana sound and she does some moving covers of some classics of blues, folk and country as well as originals.

I made a playlist on my iphone that consists of "The Best Of WAR" and "The Best Of Santana". I rarely listen to the radio unless I'm in my wife's car.

I stumbled upon Shovels and Rope during the past year and will hopefully have the pleasure of seeing them live in the near future.
At this moment, I am listening to the Brothers Comatose.

Freak Out by The Jackets

Girls in 1930s/40s/50s outfits dancing to a garage band. What's not to like?
