Showboat Shuffle - Duke Ellington & His Famous Orchestra, 1935. A Duke tour de force that doesn't get enough attention (because no music from the mid '30s gets enough attention).

Fine melody, excellent musicianship and innovative rhythm are nto enough without the showboating which was common in the late 1920's and again in the late 1930's.

What could be nicer than this:

Currently, this is on the shuffle, easily one of my favourite British bands from that era.

All day I've been on a Tossers, and Murder City Devils kick, though.

Chef d'orchestre Joe Haymes in 1932 proffering a piping and piquant Jazz Pie. A reissue from my very own Columbia Royal Blue Record, as it happens.

Dude...poor choice of titles for the Lounge. I won't sic Lizzie on you just this once, but can you still edit it?

I trust this thread to pretty much self-police, since I'm not able to view it on my computer at home due to the heavy Yoo-Toob content (yes, some of us are still using thirteen-year-old computers). I cut some slack for non-Golden Era stuff in this thread, but let's avoid the coarser modern stuff, shall we?
