What are you listening to?

I listen to a little of everything but post-1980 rock and country, with a few rare exceptions. Here is one I keep coming back to. I love Iris DeMent and here she is backed up by the incomparable Emmylou Harris. You might remember the song from the last episode of Northern Exposure.

I've never been smart enough to figure out how to get the video to show up in my post. Sorry.

Here you are, Flipped Lid, and welcome to the Lounge. It took me a while to figure it out myself.

Slightly OT: I'm crazy about this song:

...but I've searched high and low and cannot find the name of it. If anyone could tell me, I'd really appreciate it :)

Ah, it's 1997's The Shining.

The song is Masquerade my Jack Hylton Orchestra 1932. Done sounding more like a Glenn Miller Orchestra arrangement for the miniseries your clip is from. The original film used the original version, apparently.

(Oscar Tango, I like that :)) Somethin' is up. The thread lists aren't updating either.

Hey Cdot- I don't know if you got to see my reply to your post about the song from The Shining. It's Masquerade by Jack Hylton Orchestra, 1932. But the version in that version of The Shining is more like a Glenn Miller arrangement, so if you look up Masquerade- which is usually accompanied on YT by original The Shining footage- you might not like it the same.

eta- Incidentally, I posted the YT vid here last night, in the old thread, and it errored out, but then was there much like these are doing now. I had also posted it on another forum and there were no problems and still aren't, so I don't think it was the video. I hope! I see I have 2 PMs I can't get to...

Music Written for Monterey 1965, Not Heard... Played in Its Entirety at UCLA- Charles Mingus.

I first heard the poem with musical accompaniment of "Don't Let It Happen Here" in 1994 when I saw Thomas Reichman's Mingus documentary. This album, a concert given at UCLA in 1965 is as much of an interesting mess as Mingus' 1962 Town Hall concert, but this being Mingus, it's never dull.

Yep, looks like we were having some trouble. All better now!

I do like the Glenn Miller-esque arrangement better, but I'm not having much luck finding the band who did it. I heard the very same one on Coronation Street some time ago, so it must exist lol

Thanks so much!

There's a street fair about 100 yards from where my home is. So I'm listening to a horrible, terrible, local band whom I wish I could not hear.
