There's a record by Bessie Smith called: "On Revival Day," that I have on 78rpm. Does anyone know if a 45rpm version by Bessie Smith was ever released. The 45rpm version that I have is by LaVern Baker, I love it.

I found the song title intriguing and he did not disappoint. [emoji2]
I am sure you've heard this one

I used to participate on the old songwriters forum & the meaning to the lyrics on "Pancho..." among others were discussed endlessly. "Whiter Shade of Pale" by Procol Harum was another. Deep, deep stuff.

Yes. I always liked the 4th verse which adds much mystic to the lyrics, but was cut from the commercial version due to length. Definitely a classic.
My Mom used to play Burl Ives all the time from the time I was born- I grew up being a huge fan of his, even though he's a couple of generations removed from mine.
Is he too old for your taste?
He tells good stories too.

Not really familiar with his lyrics. I like song lyrics that have something to say but leaving some mystic about them & open to interpretation. Anyone can write lyrics using a rhyming dictionary.

Ah. Yes, I understand what you mean. Like in Don McLean's American Pie
