It's an early frosty morning
And the campfire's burning hot
I can smell the coffee making
In an old black outlaw pot
Old Coosie yells a second time
It'll soon be time to go
It was cold out there on guard last night
And it looks like it might snow
And I'm up here in Montana
And the folks are all so nice
They call the land The Big Sky
It's a cowboy paradise
But I miss my home in Texas
And the one who waits for me
I'll be going home to Jenny
When the roses bloom next spring
We're camped along the Yellowstone
There's beauty everywhere
Snowcapped Bighorn Mountain
Tell me wintertime is near
The cattle all are doing well
The grass is lush and high
But today this cowboy's lonesome
For the girl he left behind
I hear the wild geese calling
Heading south in flight
There's a chilly north wind blowing
And the ground will soon be white
The wranglers got the ponies in
They all got winter hair
The team's hitched to the wagon
And no one has a care
I miss my home in Texas
And the one that waits for me
I'll be going home to Jenny
When the roses bloom next spring
All day long I work a job I hate
Just to survive
At night I dream it's Friday
That's the day the eagle flies
I picture me in Vegas
Standing neath' those neon lights
With a pretty girl on both my arms
And dancin' till daylight
Cause' I love everything in nylons
Every place with neon
A honky tonk's my home away from home
Makes me think of romancin'
Those pretty girls and dancin'
Neons and nylons really turn me on
I'm sure someday I'll find a girl
Who'll make my dreams come true
We'll probably raise a family
Just like other people do
She'll just have to understand
That when my week is done
I'm gonna spend my weekend nights
In my home away from home
And I love everything in nylons
Every place with neon
A honky tonk's my home away from home
Makes me think of romancin'
Those pretty girls and dancin'
Neons and nylons really turn me on
Not music, but poetry recited by the poet himself, Ogden Nash and "The Christmas that Almost Wasn't." Nearly 25 minutes with clever and shifting rhymes
