Red Steagall -- Neons And Nylons

All day long I work a job I hate
Just to provide
At night I dream it's Friday
That's the day the eagle flies
I picture me in Vegas
Standing neath' those neon lights
With a pretty girl on both my arms
And dancing till daylight

Cause I love everything in nylon
Every place with neon
The honky tonk's my home away from home
Makes me think of romancing
And those pretty girls and dancing
Neons and nylons really turn me on

I'm sure someday I'll find a girl
Who'll make my dreams come true
We'll probably raise a family
Just like other people do
You'll just have to understand
That when my week is done
I'm gonna spend my weekend nights
In my home away from home

Red Steagall -- We Will Stand Up And Fight

I thought we were finished with all of our troubles
And left them back home in the Kentucky sand
Survived all the battles of war, death and ashes
We were hoping for peace in the great Texas land

But Kentucky came laid claim to all of the badlands
We crossed the Red River at noon yesterday
Two outlaws stopped us, demanded our horses
But they're through with hijacking after today

I got off the wagon to quiet the horses
They didn't see "Bessie," a double ten bore
They fell from their saddles, I gathered their horses
A two-barrelled shotgun has evened the score

Wife and the children are still in the wagon
Molly cries softly but muffles the sound
The clink of the shovel attracts no attention
I bury them deep and then smooth out the ground

Our entry to Texas was less than a welcome
I'm still excited we finally arrived
A chance to start over and nothing will stop us
We'll call Texas home for the rest of our lives

We drive into town as if nothing has happened
Jefferson's quiet on a hot afternoon
We were planning to stop, spend a day or two resting
We'll sleep tonight neath' the big Texas moon

Then a rider approached as I reined in the horses
We shook hands and howdied and talked for a spell
My eye caught his badge and I read "U.S. Marshal"
I was churning inside and I'm sure he could tell

He said there's some badmen that prey on new settlers
I told him what happened at noon yesterday
I was sure he'd arrest me but he just smiled politely
Said, 'Thanks for the help,' and then bid us good day

And I'm sure some will think what I did was not proper
But I did what I had to, I'm sure I was right
We're not hunting trouble, we're peace-loving people
But if trouble should find us we'll stand up and fight

Our grass will be stocked with the great longhorn cattle
Our horses will come from the finest of mares
Our children will grow like a cottonwood sapling
They'll learn how to stand and contribute their share

We've a chance to start over
And nothing will stop us
We'll call Texas home
For the rest of our lives.

It is Tuff Enough. [emoji14]
I figured that. I like that one better.

I saw the Fabulous Thunderbirds perform back in the 80s, when they were at the top of their game. Jimmy Vaughan's little brother was still a rising star who had not quite hit it big, and was their opening act. The brothers double teamed guitar on most of the songs in both of their sets. That was a pretty killer evening and I count myself as fortunate to have been there to see it.
