Thanks Vic for the record by Jack Denny, whom I quite like in the polite vein.
Here are a couple more by his distinctive no-brass 1932 band.

Apologies for the ad plug. One of these posters has been repeatedly kicked off YouTube for sharing one title or another too many out of his impressive 78 library. And everything on Dailymotion carries ads, whether 2 people view it or 200,000.

I've been listening to a lot of 1930's children's adventure serials lately. I've finished Jerry at Fair Oaks and I am midway through Jerry of the Circus and The Magic Island. All are very good listening!

Sing along, folks. "From Here to Shanghai" (1917). Irving Berlin.

I've often wandered down,
Through dreamy Chinatown,
The home of ching-a-ling,

It's fine, I must declare,
But now I'm going where,
I can see the real, real thing!

I'll soon be there,
In a bamboo chair,
For I've got my fare...

From here to Shanghai.

Just picture me,
Sipping oolong tea,
Served by a Chinaman,
Who speaks away up high.

I'll eat the way they do,
With a pair of wooden sticks,
And I'll have Ching Ling Foo,
Doing all his magic tricks.
I'll get my mail from a pale pigtail,
For I mean to sail,

From here to Shanghai.

On February 4th the Elvis Lives tour came to town. I had a mary time. I am still reeling over it. Its four guys. One was Elvis from the 1950's, next was movie Elvis (Blue Hawaii, Viva Las Vegs w/Ann Margaret look alike), 1968 come back Elvis, and 1970's concert Elvis. Plus old Photos/interviews of the real Elvis. If this tour comes to your town/country. It will be worth every penny. No ham and cheese with these guys. The funny part was when women were forming lines in the isles to get a peck on the cheek from the guys.
