Have had Brian Setzer Orchestra's Jump Jive & Wail stuck in my head for the past week as well as Buddy Holly's Holly Hop:D Every once in a while, when I get a free (read: no kids in the library during 8th period) moment at work I'll pop Anita Baker from my happy li'l droid device onto my machine, but for the most part, it's been Setzer and Holly, with occasional Deutsche-schlage thrown in just 'cos!;)

Avoiding the Christmas music for now (I'll only listen to Slade and The Pogues and cry anyhow  ). Today I am mostly being captivated by the melancholic beauty of the German language. As I work on the laptop, the following are playing in the background, pretty much on a loop:

The most beautiful recording I've ever heard of my favourite song from Cabaret:

Dear Marlene moistens the eye:

Sixteen words for "the" is still out of order, though.

Of course, a great voice is a great voice, language regardless. I cam home tiddly one night and slurred this to the cats. They weren't impressed.

Richard Himber and his Ritz-Carlton Hotel Orchestra -- Winter Wonderland (1934)
vocal by Joey Nash

According to vocalist Joey Nash, writing in the 1970s, this was the very first recording of Winter Wonderland which is now considered an enduring seasonal classic - and it came very close to never having been made. Nash first learned of the composition from a fan who happened to be the brother of lyricist Richard Smith. After seeing a handwritten manuscript and listening to a home made recording of the song, Nash discovered that its publisher had pretty much forgotten its existence. Nash introduced the song on one of Himber's radio broadcasts and it was scheduled to be part of the band's October 23, 1934 Victor recording session. Because of technical difficulties, the recording session fell behind and time ran out without the song being recorded. Himber himself had already left the studio. Nash felt very strongly about making the record and persuaded his fellow band members to stick around a bit longer. The band agreed - but on the condition that it would be a one-shot deal and if anyone made a mistake that would be it.

Love that one! :D
("Little Bitty Pretty One")
The fast-food chain "Wienerschnitzel" used the "ooooh-ooh" section of that song as background music for their website game based on lucky numbers imprinted on the corn dog sticks.
I really don't know why I need to share that info...
