Sounds a little dangerous...but alright I'm in.

But back to some tunes...I've never been a huge music expert, very plain or simple would describe it best. So I have to say that I greatly appreciate all that's been shared here. I've now seen and heard stuff, in just this last week, that I never would have known if it not been for you good people. Thanks. I especially love the era stuff that I am now more familiar with, and understand even more that I enjoy those sounds.

If I could contribute anything at all it would be to recommend a new jazz singer I chanced upon a couple of years ago, try Melody Gardot. A modern classic chanteuse. Not from the era, but of the era. I suspect you will enjoy her work.

Best to all and thanks as always. The Lounge has become a daily adventure.

You had better not be! :p

I feel the same way about this thread. I knew quite a bit about Big Bands and such, but until I read this I had no idea how much I would love music from the 20s and 30s..... and boy do I :D

The Black Bottom - Mildred Melrose dances the 1919 version and Roger Galais and Maia Myriko dance the 1927 version.

Listening to the absolutely inane and irritating chatter of my cubicle mates. Time to put on the Big Band station on Pandora!

I was listening to my stereo earlier and had put on the 10th anniversary CD of Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra "Nouveau Flamenco" for some great sonic moods. Before that i was listening to The Beau Hunks play the Little Rascals Music of Leroy Shields.

Does anybody have the Spirituals To Swing CD that this comes from? I've always wanted to get it, but I keep reading that it isn't real recordings of the original 1938 concerts, but re-recordings done in the 50's.
I used to have the version on the VANGUARD label, and that Definitely was The Original 1938 Recordings. So it's the Vanguard version you want to look for.

(Columbia put out a "Spirituals To Swing 30th Anniversary Concert" 2-LP set which was recorded in the 1960's; that's probably the one you Don't want.)

Do you have a turntable, or have any friends or neighbors in your area with one who could do a CD transfer? Here's a mint condition Vanguard 2-LP copy on The Bay for buyitnow of 10... (NOT mine) Or, there's a CD version on there for 30...

Now strangely, the Vanguard CD on Ebay says that it is the Anniversary Concert recorded 28 years later! I'm confused!
I do have a turntable, but have no way to digitally transfer!
