I have a friend who complains about the same thing with Glen. He prefers the 50's stuff more, Faron Young, Ray Price, etc, etc. Conway, "The Possom", the Statler Brothers and Johnny Cash are my favorites. Glen Campbell has some great tunes though, like you said, Gentle on my Mind, Wichita Lineman, Rhinestone Cowboy, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Southern Nights. That's all the stuff I grew up with (in the 1990's and early 2000's lol)

I'm listening to the King and Queen of Country (in my opinion) today.

Wow, hadn't heard that one in a while. I loved Glen Campbell growing up. When learning guitar, songs like Gentle on My Mind, Wichata Lineman, etc. were easy and popular. As I got older, I went for more edgy like Willie, Waylon and Merle, or more vintage like Conway and the "Possum". He has a nice voice, just a little too light for me...

Yeah, rub it in, AET. I remember watching Glen's TV show every week as a kid (The Glen Campbell Hour). John Hartford was a regular who had written many of the songs Glen made famous, and was a stellar performer and writer in his own right. He has since tragically passed away from cancer.

Much of the more modern country music in my opinion has gotten too "pop" or rock oriented. To me, the essence of country music is the twang, the steel guitar, and a fiddle or two. Of course, the requisite cheatin'
lyin', drinkin' lyrics to boot.

Conway and Loretta are indeed the "Royalty" in Country music.

My pa and I were just talking about how modern country has become just another branch of the pop music genre. It's too bad. I've been a country fan all my life and it's really sad to see what it's come to.

On a related note to the Glen Campbell show, the Porter Wagoner show is on tonight. Hope it's a good guest star (if I don't miss it)

The 'Steeleye Span" audio is unfortunately mot very good quality.

I absolutely loved the first three Steeleye Span albums (even though the first one with Terry and Gay Woods featured a completely different sound), but after Ashley and Martin left for good and took Martin's Martin with him (go figure...:D) the band became a royal pain in the rump, IMO.
