78s to come out from under the fog by --

Starting off in 1933 as Chick Bullock and His Levee Loungers give out with the whole lazy-southern bit with "Delta Bound." The Loungers on this side are actually the Dorsey Brothers Orchestra incognito, and sound it.

Next, following a commercial for St. Joseph's Aspirin -- a product with which I have had much contact lately -- it's Larry Clinton and his Orchestra in 1938, with a typically Bea Wain-ish Bea Wain vocal on "You're An Education."

Thanks Talbot!

I'm still musing over the line in her song 'Roller Coaster Blues'.

"But you're slick and evil, just like your patent leather shoes."

Steady on!

Henry Thies has a few more cuts on da Toob if you like this. His was a sad story - in the mid 30s he lost the use of his right (baton and violin bow) arm, became despondent and killed himself.

78s to make two corned beef sandwiches for a long day at work by --

Starting off in 1935 with Frances Day -- a working-class New Jersey gal who went to England, took elocution lessons, and learned to trill like Jessie Matthews -- with a delightful "Help Yourself To Happiness."

Next, ahead to 1937 with Ozzie Nelson and his Orchestra and Ozzie on the vocal for "Long As You've Got Your Health." A ducky pop tune of the moment, even though every Nelson record from this era uses exactly the same arrangement.
