”Tin Lizzie”

Found this in the “as is” box. Made by Marx & based on the Ford Model T.
Marx made several variations. This one being “Old jalopy”. It’s missing the
driver & interior mechanism & probably other things.
But not bad for $5.

I've got a collection of Neolithic spear points scrapers and arrowheads. I bought them from an antique dealer who had collected them in the Namibian Desert when he served in the Army. He said the areas to search are around the ancient now dried up waterholes - should you ever visit the Namib (Skeleton Coast of Africa). I believe they are between 2500 and 4000 years old. A friend who lives in Northern Ireland gave me a few similar arrow heads he found in his garden near some ancient 'standing stones' that are now buried. These are lying at the bottom of the case.

I own a "long case clock" (more commonly know as a grandfather clock.) that was made in Edinburg Scotland sometime between 1790-1805. I'll have to post a picture sometime. Sadly it's not running at present. It a victim of a move and needs a new suspension spring.

I'm highly disappointed nobody has mentioned something very old they own and then end their entry, finish with something along the lines of "But the oldest possesion I own has to be the wife/husband." :p

That's probably because neither Rodney Dangerfield nor Milton Berle are members of this forum!

The oldest man-made things we own are two Clovis spear points (thought I had a couple photos but couldn't find them on an iPhoto search). They came out of New Mexico and I bought them there in the early 80's. They were authenticated by a local museum here and are at least 12,000 years old, and probably another 1000-1500 years older still. I also have a collection of various pot sherds, primarily Anasazi era, that were bought, mostly, from Ernest Shirley down in Utah many years ago.

More recent items include some late 18th century books and my 2nd great-grandfather's pocket watch, a key wind American Watch Co. railroad watch with a coin silver case. I had it restored many years ago and the watchmaker dated the movement to 1877 which would be about right to my ancestor's time. His grandson, my grandfather, gave it to me telling me it was broken and couldn't be fixed. The watchmaker I brought it to many years later begged to differ and had it fixed with a new key within a few days. It keeps excellent time to this day. From the other side of the family, a cousin sent me a side chair that belonged to my 2nd great-grandparents. It dates to around 1850-1860.

Other old things we have that interest me include a Gettysburg minie ball, some mid-19th century English field binoculars, a 19th century western saddle, and some American mid-19th century stamped envelopes (AKA covers). A lot of our furniture and decor/art is older but mostly 20th century.

My latest (and oldest) acquisition so far. I've been told that this could date to as far back as the late 17th century...

I'm not sure if I believe it, but here it is:
