Yes - I think most of the hats we see are more recent, 1950s vintage or later, and often only the very best 'dress' hat that was rarely worn rather than the every day hat (relative to the original owner). A few really old ones come along now and then, but either they are in terrible shape or if they are in good shape the bidding goes way past my means.

Another thing I notice is that we don't see these hats showing up on the Bay. We don't have threads full of these hats like we have for other Stetson hats.

I wonder how many hats, in general not just these specific ones, ended up being tossed out because they were just worn out or from the 60's on as hat wearing died out ended up going to the landfill...yes I have nightmares about the latter scenario!

Awesome!!!! I wonder sometimes how much our efforts to identify Stetson quality levels and manufacture date are marred by made-over (refurbished) hats that are a combination of felt, trimmings, and key information that are more reflective of bits and pieces overstocked in retail Stetson dealers than actual evidence of what was being manufactured at a particular time. These catalogs indicate a robust economy in refurbishment.

Thanks Vic! A more comprehensive look at hats than we get from the stockman catalogs, wish we knew which year. Before I began wearing and collecting hats I wore caps and still have several, all of which are derivatives of what was called 'cassimere' in this catalog.

Amazing. I can't imagine these days of a single business that would offer such an extensive line of different styles.
