Nice. I read in a Longmire novel that with eagles being a protected species the Indigenous paint Turkey feathers to look like eagle feathers for their ceremony’s.

I think it's federal law in the US prohibiting possession of any feathers or other body parts of any bird of prey or raptor. Not sure exactly how it reads because that would also include vultures & buzzards. It goes back to the time when people feared raptors & thought they killed livestock. There was a bounty paid upon turning in their beaks & some were driven to near extinction.

We have a local who paints these. I had one of his faux bald eagle feathers on a cord hanging from the rear view mirror when my truck was stolen a few yrs ago.
