One of two Dobbs I own. Both Westwards. One felt and the other is a straw that bears no resemblance to the former.

The felt:

put some gold cords on. You can see the fade from the old band, but I think I’ll wear it like this for a bit.
The macrame hatband on my Tanbark had actually been sewn thru the middle with some pretty heavy jute-like cord. When I removed it the cord left some goodsize damage so I used a beaded band to cover that up.

My black Stagecoach macrame hatband was sewn on with normal fishingline, so minimal to no damage. I made a faux barbwire hatband like we used to make back in the day.

Luckily, I had the standard fishing line to contend with. I would love a hand beaded band, but have yet to find the right one. You have some great examples!

Hat with the owl feather is a Stetson ranch tan 5X. Bought it last year from a neighbor who bought it 15 years ago for a wedding. He wore it once put it in the plastic bag, back in the box and into the closet lol. The other was given to me by a older friend, its a Resistol 7x in mist. We found it under a bag of clothes in a plastic bag going through his late mothers things. It was his stepdad's. It was badly misshapen but in overall the felt was in great shape,no stains or moth eaten. It was originally purchased in Topps Western World in Marshal Texas. From an internet search I found that Topps operated in Marshal from 1981 through 1988. This hat feels to be better quality than an equivalent hat new today, but that may just be me.
Edit: Both reshaped by myself using the "cold shower" method.

An oldie and goodie... when 1X meant an excellent hand and long wearing felt and sweatband. When I won the eBay auction many years ago the seller sent a note that she wasn't sure but thought the hat was vintage. Late teens to 1920 is my age estimate. Horsehair band is old but not original to the hat.

Phenomenal hat Alan. It’s always a treat to see this one of a kind and so pristine. A hat to covet and cherish.

Ps: has a Lot # ever been found on this one?

It’s my first Borsalino. I have basically zero knowledge of this brand but I’ve seen some mixed reviews. When I saw this western style I thought it would be a great acquisition. It’ll be receiving some TLC this week with some cleaning and new sweatband. I’m just curious to know what “extra extra superior” quality actually entails. Any of my friends here know what I’m working with with quality and age?

This is an INCREDIBLE hat! Post it in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread and Stefan, Daniele, or another expert will give you chapter and verse. Great find!

You should feel very lucky indeed, Jesse John. Beyond the local historical significance of a man most of the rest of the world have never heard of, you have a Borsalino, which most people in and outside of the USA have heard of. Congrats.
Shame about the sweatband, but that is one very interesting piece of Borsalino history.
As Brent said, post it in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread. Your hat knowledge will increase many fold.

Thank you!! I just realized it’s historical significance too. It belonged to Charles Millby Dale. A governor of New Hampshire. I’m feeling lucky!
