Western, anyone?

Here are a few more westerns I found at home today:

A 5x American Hat Co. bright yellow hat that I stretched & creased (it literally took hours to do this) to make a Halloween costume. Can you guess who I was? I may give this a Tom Mix crease (the real pinch top one he wore most often, not the Gus) at some point - the color is right, just need a long yellow trench & some fancy boots.

This is a modern custom 7x I bought from a friend who no longer wears westerns ($50). It's a little boxy, but is a nice hat. Don't know if I'll change the crease.

A modern "Shantung" genuine "Panama" by Stetson (from the same friend) - stiff & not nearly as light as my oldie, but its a good look-alike. I rarely wear it, but will give it some use this summer.

That's all for now...

Very nice! I do look forward to seeing the rest of your headwear!!

I will post it at some point soon, but would appreciate it if you would suggest a thread. Most (but not all) of my dress hat collection is lightweights, so that thread might be the best choice. I am really trying to be patient waiting for a beaver top hat I ordered about 1 1/2 weeks ago. It's been a slow shipping, but the price was so good ($88) and the hat so nice, that I cannot complain.

Here is the (The Hat Store, Houston Tx) custom 7x from above, with a new pencil roll John-crease for today's county fair. I started out with a Montana Peaks crown in mind but it did not look good on me. I like this better, and I am going to call it "California Peaks" in honor of the two great white broken top mountains that shadow us here in far Northern California (Mt. Shasta & Mt. Lassen). It's still a little wet at the moment...

They can be had at pretty good prices if you are vigilant. I bought the gambler crease Nutria hat above in a $69 buy-it-now purchase a couple of weeks back, and there were two others that were in a little better shape that sold within a day or so earlier, but before I had the cash ready. I was glad to get the one I did at that price.

Now, the last of my western collection from the office. Starting with the South American (I think) nutria. This had a stampede cord and a real shiny black stone slide when I bought it (that is now a bolo tie). I was pleased that it had been sewn under the sweat rather than pushed through the brim.

Here is the Stetson Open Road 25 in real silverbelly. It was open crowned, and I creased it based on a photo of (old) Hank Williams in a similar hat. This is really grey, not taupe, but the lighting at the office was bad early this morning.

This is true. It is a hassle to wait sometimes, but I have gotten some of my favorite vintage hats from overseas sellers. A Cervo Bantam from Italy and a beautiful Stetson Zephyr from Great Britain come to mind. I am glad that they were willing to ship internationally.

Bump, with a new to me 1950's or 60's silverbelly Stetson rancher crease "No. One Quality," in really great shape. The felt is very nice, and thick, and there is a little bit of a mulekick in the front of the crown. The brim is just a little too stiff for my taste, but it is a nice hat & I will not change a thing.
