That's a nice looking western, RLK.

Why does everyone keep calling Bowlerman's hat a Campdraft? It's a Stetson 25...

I think he implied it was a Campdraft. Since he gave NO indication he was "pulling someones leg" I would have to presume that was what he meant. He would make his pressumtion clear would he not :)

This is the original post.

Ok, Neo. You've inspired me to start screwing around with new creases. I've had his old Stetson Twenty Five OR lying around-- it's got some pretty good wear to begin with, but I always felt that the original crease "cattleman?" looked great in a profile but was way too tapered for me from the front, and didn't work too well with what seems like a cup and snap brim.

So I tried a gus, but the original crease was so worn in that you could readily see all the prior crease markings and I bounced it back easily to the first crease.

Well for fun I've always wanted to try a telescope, so without really knowing proper techniques I've done a rather rough-edged 4 inch one. There are still some areas where the original crease shows through in the form of fuzz rubbed from a strong pinch.

Also tried messing with the cup and snap to see if it could be flattened, but I don't think it did much, so both ends are snapped down now. Here are some photos of the progression-- is this blasphemous?

Regarding the facial axis of symmetry, my face definitely doesn't have straight sides or a wide flat chin, so this may be completely stupid in the first place. Any crease advice from you experienced folks?

Then he intentionally lied and implied something else. There are accepted ways of indicating satire on Forums and he did not use them :) Still looks as an Aussie CD SHOULD. :)

The Campdraft was a Stetson Open Road made under license by Akubra back in the '50s to get around import taxes and sold as a Stetson. When Akubra no longer made it as a Stetson they sort of absorbed it into their line and gave it another name, the Campdraft. So historicaly it could be refered to more as an American styled hat . :)

Wow, thanks for enlightening me. I must have missed the dozens of other posts from all the years past stating the same interesting history lesson over and over again. If I include a smiley face icon, will that get the irony across better? I think the fog is getting thicker here. I didn't see the poster with the 25 making any implications that his hat was anything but a Stetson 25. Oh well, a pointless argument over a trivial fact. Thanks for the information. Frank

Ha! Nice.
Whatever the history may be, and you all know much more than I do, it's still a Stetson 25 Open Road that originally had the mini-cattleman. I don't even know what significance the "twenty five" has in relation to any other Stetson anyway.

Frussel mentioned that most online listings of a Campdraft show it with a telescopic crease and flipped down brim, and for the sake of not having to type "telescopic crease and flipped down brim" at every referral, I simply went with Frussel's suggestion and adopted "Campdraft--" I believe in quotes every time.

I certainly don't intend to misrepresent, gentlemen; I'm really just on this forum to share, learn, and pass the time!

Incidentally, I inquired about the stretching to Montana Peaks Hat Co. (from whom I ordered this hat) and a modified long oval hat jack was in the mail to me within hours. So far it's working like a charm. I can't say enough good things about my dealings with this company so far, plus the felt and finish seem so much softer, smoother, and more resilient than any other hat I own.

Any time Frank. Glad to add to the trivia as I can. But then collecting is basically aquiring lots of stuff and TRIVIA anyway :)

Yes you did use quotes, but NOWHERE on the "Campdraft Nouveau" post did you identify the hat shown as a Stetson 25, but rather it was implied that this was an example of a Campdraft in the style of crease Neo was posting about. I try and write most of my posts as if they ALONE will be read and not use any IMPLIED referance to previous posts ( ie your previous post about your Stetson 25 from which you used the pics for the "Camdraft Nouveau" post. But as Frank stated in his post above it dosn't matter all that much as its trivial. :) So no biggy :)

Monbla256, In response to monbla256's 6:22am 1/31/2011 response-- My bad, mon. :) I shouldn't have assumed you were present for the original Stetson 25 post I made.:) :) :)
In response to Neo's request for a "head-on" shot-- here it is. It may not be a ton different from the first stages of my telescope attempt, but it's different enough to me to want to wear it!
For anyone just joining us, this is a Stetson Twenty Five Open Road from god knows when and I didn't like the front view of it's original miniature cattleman/rancher crease, so I went low telescope.

I didn't think I was technologically challenged, but...

... can't seem to figure out how to add a picture to a post.

(I've got a CD with a gus I want to show.)

Tips?

Thanks,

Harry
