Picked up this Resistol Western yesterday. The felt is real nice. I liked the original cattleman in the abstract but I think the Gus looks better on my head. The band is thin leather, I guess buckskin, and it’s a long pug that goes all the around to the right side.

I was telling Bowen the other day that I once read that the Gus crease was named for Augustus McCrae, the Lonesome Dove character. B said that the crease is much older, but it could have been named for Gus McCrae later.
He suggested I ask the question here, rather than in the Ask a Question thread.
Does anyone know?

I am considering an addition to my collection and I believe I may seek O'Farrell Hat Company out of Santa Fe, NM to be the producer.
With this in mind, I would like to ask fellow members their opinion and experience with O' Farrell Hat company and the hats produced by them.

Thank you for your time and anything you share with me.

O'Farrell makes great Hats , but you should ask @BobHufford , he's got a few and been to O'Farrell in Santa Fe .

I have a few O'Farrells from the 1980s up through 2006 and they were all purchased used. These were all made during Kevin O'Farrell's tenure (the shop is now run by his son after Kevin's passing). These hats are all quite nice and my experience while in the shop in Santa Fe was great (although I have not had a hat made especially for me). Expensive hats, but most custom westerns are. Seems like @RJR has a few O'Farrells as well so maybe he will chime in.

Very Nice! Very nice to hear as well! If you have posted them, where may I find them for look see. :D

Do you happen to know if the family has taken a spot of vacation for the Christmas Holiday. I emailed them earlier this week and have yet to hear back. So I was wondering if they are closed for the holidays and I would hear back shortly after the New Year.

Many Thanks!

Not sure if they are on a holiday break, but if you don’t hear back try again or call. They are usually very good at communicating. I’ll try and get a photo or two posted tomorrow.

My current O’farrells. The top is natural beaver and the other is Cuenca. The one that should be done in a couple months is their Tecate style in chocolate beaver.
