I finally see how a horse hair band is supposed to be attached! The hat is really cool, bet it turns out nice.

Stunning hat, the band attachment notwithstanding. I’m looking forward to seeing it after you clean and shape it.

Bob, any indication what grade the felt is? Date code?

Thanks everyone.

Jack -- I've only done a quick peek behind the sweat, but need to treat it before I dig deeper. So far nothing other than the sweat stamp and liner give any clue.

Got the Stetson 3X "American Royal" cleaned up and shaped. It was dirty and I went with a gas bath as sponging and steaming would not dissipate many of the stains, especially where the Sterling pins had tarnished against the felt. All the steaming and brushing has helped diminish the holes significantly. I think they will continue to improve over time. Seems every cowboy hat I have ends up in a version of this crease. I need to come up with something else.

Nice one! The ribbon is very cool, and the bound edge tops it off.

Looks great BB! The bath worked great to bring out the beauty of the felt. I wonder if that isn't natural beaver?

Thanks, HJ. I try to avoid the bath if I can but this one needed it. Good question about the felt. The only natural I have to compare it against is my Dorer and the color is close. Compared to my 40's-early 50's 3X silverbelly OR, the felt has a similar hand but the color is quite different.
