If my memory serves me right I remember the Resistol Stagecoach had a slight slope to the back. I could be wrong.
I'm not an expert either but I would say 1950's. My avatar is a similar hat from the 50's.Just got this in... and am heartbroken since the it’s just too small for me. Can anyone give me a bit of info on this in terms of age? I will say, this thing is blowing my mind. I‘m not an expert, I have handled a few westerns before... but none have been this soooffft. I had no idea...

Hey Bama:I consider them both westerns but my thinking on westerns may be different than others. Though I tend to agree with gtdean48 for the most part, I think westerns can be divided into western dress or cowboy hats. I look at OR's and the clones with less than 3" brims as western dress and those above a 3' brim as cowboy hats. The weight of the felt along with the stiffness of the brim and crown also play a part. Bowen I would venture to say that both of these hats were considerably stiffer in their youth. (No jokes from the peanut gallery) My 40's Nutria Quality is soft and pliable in both crown and brim but it is still a western/cowboy hat. I would imagine that age and use softened it considerably. I've considered applying shellac to it because the brim won't retain it's shape.
Bowen, that Boss Raw Edge with a brim binding still throws me for a loop.

Edit: that is a real interesting crease! I think I like it. They seem to have really experimented with differant creases for thier westerns in the 50's......
That is interesting. Here‘s the crease from a shallower angle... It is pretty badass.

After pushing it out to an open crown I did a similar crease in order to eliminate a taper that I didn't like. Here‘s the crease from a shallower angle... It is pretty badass.

Wow! Farewell to freewheelin Franklin. That looks great, I really like the band.Whew! The heat and humidity have caused my new-to-me O'Farrell's brim to droop. In fact, the hat is still a bit wet.
Good work on the brim, Bob. I like that look a lot. If you like you can always lower the crown by sinking it a bit, like a Planters hat. My Thoroughbred is too rounded so I prefer it open crown.Whew! We will be leaving in the morning with friends in their new motorhome for Cheyenne Frontier Days. Still deciding if I can take two hats or just one. Probably should just take a straw.

Not sure of what vendors will be there. Cheyenne Outfitters is out of business now, I think. We will be restricted to using the shuttle or other public transportation to get around.Take a straw and plan on bringing back a new hat or two.
Got tickets for the PBR, the Trail to Cheyenne Championship, plus a couple of other nights at the rodeo. Old West Town, Indian Village, the museum, etc. Looking forward to it!Sounds like a good time in store for you!
I'll have one of these (& only one) for you!
I'll have to sneak one into the motorhome, otherwise my buddy would never allow a grapefruit Shandy! Maybe I could take a few Bulleits neat or OTR?Wow ... I appreciate that! Almost like taking a bullet (but better than a Silver Bullet).
