Check with Major Mike Moore at Buckaroo Hatters. He's a member here & can do all sorts of Western lids. Does a mean fedora & Outback style as well.

Hi

I'm getting REAL close to calling Roy at Jaxonbilt hats for the Non-traditional Campaign hat. I looked at Rand Hat's website and
http://www.randhats.com/hat_detail.cfm?CID=1000,2000&id=if20l1636sgsbt

looks pretty good, but no prices. Jaxonbilt is $265 for a 50% beaver. Is Rand's more or less expensive? There aren't any prices on their website.

Thanks

Crown front 5" back 4". Brim 4" with a pencil curl. The wind string slide is antler. This is a reproduction (or copy) of the hat Brad Pitt wore as Tristan in the movie "Legends Of The Fall". Tough as nails it is my go to hat in nasty weather.

Here's my Fathers 50 yo Stetson that's next in line for some TLC @ Peters Bros. ....

... according to my mother he bought this one around 1959. He gave it to me in 1975 and I've worn it when I was working horses thru the 80's/90's. It's been to Peters Bros once before and now needs somemore TLC. I did the hatband out of some Kangaroo and mane/tail hair from two of my mares at that time. It doesn't have a liner but I will have them put one in this time. Here's a couple of current pics:

it's a BIG hat, 4" brim witha a crown hght. of 6 " at the top of the crease and it was a 4xxxx Beaver Stetson. It's been thru hell but I think it has only added "charachter" thru the years :)

Tennessee,
Notice how the front curl of the brim has evolved thru the years with handling. The more you sort of curl it as you take it on/off the more it will develop that real cow hat look :) It's got a moth hole in the top of the crease and will be there from now on. And notice how the crown takes on a taper from the center dent/ tight front pinch crease it has. The crown is quite square but does this because of the style of crease. Just wanted you to see a "working" cowboy hat, not some western wear designers idea. They don't have to be dirty, just "worn" to gain that "look" Will of ccourse take some pics when it gets back after the first of the year.

I was wondering if that was a moth hole; I thought it looked cool :). I definitely noticed the curl in the brim. I can tell this one has seen its fair share of the elements. It really does look great!

As far as Westerns go, I decided I want an open crown hat, like a Boss of the Plains style. This will allow me to do whatever the hell I want with it. I would have gone with an Akubra, but unfortunately the open crown westerns they make are only available on indent. At any rate, I decided to go custom, maybe with Buckaroo Hatters or The Last Best West. We'll see how things develop.

The term many Akubra owners on the Lounge may be familiar with is the "dreaded 3-month wait." The businesses I've contacted called this "available on indent."
