Why r we here?

Why am I here? That is a good question. I originally came here because someone on Badger and Blade recommended it to me when I got over a bout of skin cancer and needed a hat.
After surfing around a bit I stayed. I always like suites from the 40’s through the 50’s and early 60’s depending on my mood. I soon found this place much more of an interest board. It’s a bit of normalcy for me. I’m away from home and I can read this forum when everyone at home is sound asleep!
So, I lurk in the corners, living vicariously through others, listening to the exotic places many of you live in like LA or the British Isles.
I also fantasize about what I’m going to buy for myself when I get home. I’ve learned so much about style and having confidence in letting the world view just a little of that style. LOL lol

I came in originally looking for information on Fedoras and whether I could get my dad's Borsalino restored.

I stuck around because there is so much interesting information as to vintage stuff, lifestyle, clothes, music, film, dancing and the list goes on. There's events and interesting news items from around the world, pictures of collections, meet ups, museums and travel. Along with it scads of interesting people that bring all sorts of interest to the big party we call the Fedora Lounge.

:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap That's why its so great being around the gents in our local Art Deco Society, the more I meet the more they are all talking about the vintage clothes they have found and collected!

Gee whiz, you talk about *clothes* in there? I just assumed it was all about beer and football!

YES! Oh my goodness gracious me, Marc- you're killing me with these posts and their fabulous pics... Oh, I'm already dead... I love seeing and learning about eh the guys stuff here on FL , but NOT for myself to ever wear - that would be for the hubby and our son.

A fine, well groomed and well (vintage) dressed gentleman is a beautiful thing to behold- and dance with.

That pretty much sums it up. Great topics discussed, knowledge shared, good people to talk about it all with.

I tend to stay on many of the "men's threads" as the clothes. hats and accessories are fascinating to me.

Not that many ladies post pics compared to the men here on FL it seems. Wonder why that is the case... Do much more men in general wear vintage garb than us ladies do?

Much on the Powder Room doesn't suit me or interest me; for example I sew, but not vintage patterns. I'd rather show and tell what I am wearing and own by actually wearing my vintage look out and about, rather than what I often see on "Show Me Your purchases/vintage hats -gals ", a picture of a dress (or hat) on a hanger/hat stand or mannequin or a website page.

I do enjoy learning from the ladies hairdo thread though...:)

As a result I tend to hang my vintage ladies hat(s) on the "What are you wearing today?" and "What hat are you wearing today?" threads as posted are lots of pics of FL-ers in their Vintage and Vintage-inspired clothing and hats there- that appeals to me more.

I really like the lifestyle discussions and pics in the OB and Steamer Trunk and have learned much from others.

All that said, I'm a participant (as is our entire family) rather than an observer in the Vintage/Golden Era/Art Deco era lifestyle.
