Well, I think next month will be my bender, only because I finally bought the core wardrobe that I've been working at since recently joining the lounge.

Oh no wait, I forgot about shirts... well they're not going to be vintage so I guess that works. I think there are going to be a lot of typed sighs on this thread.

(*sigh*)

... y'see!?!

Well, I just paid off a couple of credit cards that were run up while my wife and I weren't working thanks to finally getting my 1/4 of what little estate my father had. I'm planning on using a bit that's left to purchase a new computer to replace the one I'm typing on right now, which will in turn be made into a network server so I can have a bit of hands-on experience with Windows Server 2008. It's a "for work" thing and something I've been planning on for a year and a half. Yeah, it took that long and more for the whole process!

This afternoon I had to have my car towed to my mechanic's shop. Drove from Chillicothe to Jackson without any issue; got into the car after having lunch in Jackson and had nothing but hot air blowing out the A/C vents and the temperature gauge climbed to the red. It appears the fan decided to stop working. I wonder how much that's going to cost me? :rage:

Lizzie, four years to qualify for health insurance? I'm a bit ignorant concerning the civilian world and health insurance, but that just seems a bit excessive. I'm glad to hear you have it, though, and hope that it's actually decent coverage.

Take care, all!

@Tango Yankee: I don't consider a new shaving brush and more shaving cream frivolous spending. To me, such things as toiletries are a necessity.:)

This month, I will have some extra money because I am repainting 'holy statues' for a family member. I will most likely use it to buy some cheap used copies of U-Boat books on my list.

I've had two huge sales months in a row, so I have a short-term income boost, part of which will land in the savings account, part of which will be used to get the cars ready for winter, and get the kids new clothes for school. Even with the questionable state of the economy, people are still buying prearranged funerals, thank heaven!

Prien,

I dunno, I could have survived a bit longer without the shaving brush... maybe. ;) I have been using a standard badger brush and bought a silver badger brush to try out. But yes, the shaving cream was a definite necessity--I was almost out of it!

For cheap used U-Boat books, have you tried Abe Books? I was following another thread and used it to look up books by Admiral Gallery--I used to read his stuff when I was in school, way back in the '70s. I particularly enjoyed his book on the U-505, but I like his fiction as well.

Regards,
Tom

have been saving for a trip to london next week, so i'm not enforcing the rules, but i HAVE just organised my wardrobe into sections (even the rail) and i've concluded i need:

-more skirts
-more blouses
-at least 1 more warm suit
-a jacket or coat for winter (although this may require some serious saving)
-some more any-weather friendly dresses
-more stockings!

although i'm not hoping to get all of these in London next week (particularly with £150!)

Well, I knew it was too good to be true...my autistic kiddo, Rainman, destroyed his bunk bed today, so two of the kids don't have a bed now. It was a wood frame with metal brackets, and he just destroyed it, broke a 1x8 board in half, ripped the brackets off. It's beyond repair, so we need to find a new bunk bed frame ASAP.

I told my wife that I could make it look like an accident if I kill just ONE of the kids...I'm kidding, I think.

OK - I'm back on the spending wagon after a very excessive month.

this month is a buy no clothes month (unless the dreamed on green tweed 40s suit turns up - I have £70 sat in paypal waiting for it) and I'm going to concentrate on my knitting, sewing and getting the mending done so a few unwearables become useful again.

I need to start paying off my two credit cards that I racked up my house purchase costs on, and regaining a little security.
