Out of the many Aero designs I have tried, I've always regarded the Highwayman to the the most basic and standard. It's been referred to as Aero's most popular model, and it seems to be one of the most common to find sold secondhand, which I think bolsters that claim.
Getting the fit right maybe difficult, and it may suit some body types more than others, and there's been a lot of variation in the measurements, so tagged size is often more of a guideline or a suggestion. All that is true.
But a well fitting Highwayman, properly broken in, is as good as it gets. Versatile, adaptable, and never overstated.
Picking my favorite style in Aero isn't easy. But I don't have to. I like the Highwayman, the Sheen, the 4-pocket Cafe Racer that the Sheen is based on, and I like the 50s half-belt, the half-belt deluxe, and the Wayfarer. I like the Teamster, and I like the Bootlegger. I like the Thunder Bay and the J-106. They are all different but they all can work for me, I have found. I've had a few that weren't right for me, too, but I was always able to move them on for good value, so getting to the right ones was a bit of a journey, but it was rewarding. Some really good jackets hang in my closets, and finding time to wear them all seems to be the biggest challenge.
