Wearing an AERO HIGHWAYMAN in your actual size

Anyone here wearing a Highwayman in your normal jacket size, i.e.; not sized down? If so, do you have pictures? I'm just curious to see what one looks like when worn 'as intended'. I normally wear a 42 but went with a 38 hywmn.

I can't imagine it 2 sizes larger on me, but to be fair I've never tried one or seen one when worn this way

I usually wear 38/40(EUvsJapan) and had a Hwm in size 38 which was to big on me(don't know if it was the older smaller pattern, or the one that Aero uses today), didn't like the amount of space around the stomach(way to ( ) shaped for me).

I really like the look of the OG Highwayman, but If I was to get another one in the future I would have to go 36, hope this helps.

It's supposed to be worn short. The pattern got bastardized over time, by people adding length to the jacket (something that I am guilty of) which is okay I suppose if someone doesn't like their jacket to be this short and wide but with the extra sleeve & back length, from just roomy/boxy, the jacket in wearers size becomes simply too large.

Aero should've never ever allowed any kind of modifications. . .

This is, to me, pretty much ideal Highwayman fit...

Aero 50s Highwayman size 40 measures the same as Vanson model B in current tag size 42. Shoulder is 19” in the front, 24” P2P, 22” hem (44” bottom opening circumference). The length is one inch shorter sleeve and body on the Highwayman. The collar/neck hole is also 1.5” smaller, making back length measure longer but is actually not that long because the smaller collar tilts towards the front.
If you downsize the 50s Highwayman to fit the torso then a lot of other things may not work, sleeve hole, neck hole…etc. the neck hole is small as it is now when compared to other brands.
It won’t look oversized if you wear your chest size. It just looks boxy armpit down. Anyone 6’ or taller can benefit from adding an inch to length if you’re used to the modern American jackets lengths. Here is my size 40 with one inch added to sleeve and body, it measures exactly like my Model B size 42 jacket but the Highwayman neck hole is still 1.5” too small.

My first “nice“ leather jacket was a Highwayman in size 44, my true size at the time.

As you can see, it was big on me! I remember being really frustrated because I’d seen all the photos here of guys wearing great fitting jackets from Aero and I could tell mine was not one of them and I didn’t know why.
I will say that the straps down at the bottom of the highwaymen are almost entirely useless when it comes to creating a trimmer shape or tapering the jacket, they do make the jacket look like a balloon though If you over tighten them.

Aero HWM is such a bad-looking jacket.

Not to me it isn't. I had one for years and stupidly sold it, so I just bought another one. Both size 38 (I normally wear a 42). Going back to this style is interesting...I'm so over 'slim fit' T-Shirt only jackets. If I can't at least wear a henley style shirt or track jacket over a t shirt underneath my leather jacket I don't want it. No more Japanese jackets, no more "high arm holes' LOL. I'm a slim guy so yes, I like a "slim-ish' look, but it has to accommodate one reasonable layer without making me feel like a sausage in a corset or it sucks and I don't want it. I'm not really a T-shirt only guy, unless it's summer and it's hot out, in which case the leathers are at home in the closet.

But back to the HWM...it's funny, sizing 2 sizes down and it doesn't look boxy but it's still roomy and comfy when layering

Here's another Pic with the jacket more broken in. Pic further up was basically brand new.
Imo, the hwm only looks good if it's kept in the intended cropped/boxy dimensions and can't really be changed to look sleek and "flattering" in a more modern understanding. Personally I'd prefer mine shorter but as I'm 6'7 with a long torso, I sized it to just barely cover my belt. A true boxy cut would have been too short in relation to how pants tend to sit on me. I the end, it's never going to be a showstopper kind of jacket.

The most basic leather jacket design ever. IMO at its absolute best it is the height of mediocre safety. Not for me and it’s frustrated people around here for years chasing a “safe choice” boring, plain and utterly perfunctory leather jacket.

Personally I think the secondhand market is driving it for a lot of people(shiteloads of cheap Highwayman out there), at least when they are new to the hobby :)

Not saying you are wrong! it sure is a really safe model, but sometimes safe is nice :D
