Asprin in the toilet bowl?

I was watching a Tyra Banks episode a little while ago that was about house hold hints, and the main guest (who has written a book but i cannot remember what it was called) said to drop an asprin in the toilet bowl, because the effervescence lifted most of the *ahem* yuckiness off the toilet bowl. I haven't tried it yet, but if someone decides too, let me know if it works! :)

I know you can make a paste of crushed asprin and water and use it as a exfoliant "face mask" (the salicylic acid lifts dead skin)... too bad I already cleaned the bathroom today! Maybe Alka-Seltzer would work... it's effervescent! :)

Yes it is... oh the glory of these household hints I am posting from 1941. Actually there are a lot of hints in here that require kerosene... But I'll stick to my pledge! LOL

Isn't kerosene flammable? That seems dangerous.

Because I am a GENIUS when it comes to chemicals... would the kerosene work like paint thinner?

Yep...most definitely. Remember kerosene lamps & lanterns? It's a petroleum-derived flammable fuel, just like gasoline, which some books used to recommend for cleaning some things.

pretty much,

People in Australia who live in low populated dry places have huge water tanks that stores all the water that is caught from the roof of the house. Having a 20ft diameter tank full of water is just asking for mosquitos, so my aunt would put a cup of kerosene in the water. It floats on water and the mosquitos arent font of landing on kerosene.

No kidding... That really makes me think of the "privilaged" attitude I have. I don't think I would like my water to contain kerosene (or mosquitos) at all. But if that is all you have... I feel quite spoiled at the moment.

First Aid Hints

Common Colds

Watkins Laxative Cold Tablets should be taken when cold first appears--an excellent medicine. Rest in bed, keep warm, avoid drafts, take plenty of liquid. Use paper handkerchiefs and burn. Use Watkins Nose and Throat Drops or Watkins Ephedrine Nasal Jelly to relieve head congestion. A drop or two of Watkins Inhalant on the handkerchief or edge of the pillow case is and easy and simple way to clear the head and permit freer breathing. Take Watkins Cod Liver Extract Tablets to build resistance to colds. Build resistance to colds with a nutritious diet of the protective foods, as milk, eggs, lean meat, vegetables, and fruit. Drink plenty of water.

My mom always tells stories about how her parents made her and her sisters and brother drink cod liver oil. According to mom, it's the grossest thing ever.

Orange Juice

Wash and chill oranges, strain and serve fresh. Especially good for babies because of the calcium content which builds bones and teeth. If not availible, served strained tomato juice, also a source of Vitamin C.

Im sure alot of people know this, but i'm going to let you all know anyway.. if you get a cold or flu, one good way to get better faster is to eat a clove of garlic twice a day. It tastes awful, but it does work... please don't ask me how, i don't know. But my family has been doing this for generations and it seems to work. You might want to hold your nose though! ;)
