Washing my G-1?

Have you considered a TRUSTED leather care expert to have it dry cleaned. The problem with your washing the G-1 is that an adverse event once done cannot be undone.

To be fair, we are not talking about Hub Zemke's personal jacket here -- he has a 1970 7823D G-1.

Nice jacket -- I have a D-series in my own collection -- but we aren't talking about an irreplaceable jacket if an "adverse event" takes place.

Resurrecting this thread. I have washed several jackets in front loading machines on the gentle cycle using Warm water. The thought of wearing someone's else sweat and DNA does not sit well with me and I will roll the dice.

I had success with about 90% of my jackets. I had an old Levi's leather I washed, and it was fine except I lost some shiny patina that the wash made dull.

My question is, I just bought a preowned G-1 off FleaBay. I am not worried about the leather, but am concerned about the mouton collar if I throw it in the machine.

Has anyone washed their G-1 with mouton/fur collar? If so, did the collar still look fresh or did it become ragged?
