Warning: New Scammer

I hate to post this but I think I can now verify a new scammer...

I posted a WTB last week regarding a FCL Eric. I was contacted by a new user, using my exact language in my WTB and asked to get off of FL to conduct business. I initially said I wasn't comfortable going off this site with them not having any history. I got ghosted. I then created a fake email to see what would happen and contacted them through that and got an immediate response and they sent me pictures of a jacket that is not the one I wanted and I know they're pictures of another users jacket. I acted stupid and asked about the pictures and a specific pocket that is not in the Eric but is on the Leon. Specifically these are @Arizor's pics and I know because I bought it from him and know the pictures. This user should be banned and I've reported this.

User lists their name as Joshua Garcia and uses the email joshuagarcia71170@gmail.com. They said they were in Indiana US (not the way we describe our states usually) and also listed the condition 8.5/10 which is not the way I usually see anyone list jacket condition on this site. (more of an overseas term on ebay from what I've seen)

I tell you, really watch out before you give any personal info or especially any $. I wonder if there's a way within the classifieds section to list members names and successful transactions (like ebay type ratings) to verify members? Or if someone PMs you, you can post to the lounge asking for recommendations on a user before conducting business with them?

I’ve never bought or sold anything here - but, I belong to a knife forum and they have a section in their classifieds called “the good, the bad and the ugly” to post feedback.
Maybe it is something that could be done here if people want it.

I have purchased 4 fedoras over the years no problems, except one fedora had a very deep moth divot that was not stated in the ad , otherwise smooth sailing .

Thanks for the heads up. The best way to deal with this is by using the report button with a brief explanation or, better yet, a copy of the PM. Eric Tehrani reported it earlier with a copy of the PM.

The golden rule, really trust your intuitions. If it seems too good to be true, it most certainly is!

Never pay as a gift payment either. I'm a moderator on a vintage BMX forum and lots of guys send gift payments and then sellers disappear. We do get stuff done and cash back by locking sellers accounts ect but happy endings don't always happen

Never pay as a gift payment with paypal unless you know the person.

i received a text too. he claimed he is selling his aero premier highwayman, but asked for my size first. which i found strange for a seller to ask, before presenting what he/she is selling.

JoshuaGarcia is gone, but there will be another to replace him, or he will come back with a different name. Just be aware of his MO and be wary. When you get a PM from someone using this MO, report it immediately, and he will be shown the door.

Thanks everybody for all this info, hints, warnings. I am sure we all are not naive and are not fooled easily. But scammers get more professional all the time, and it helps me a lot to get updated on the 'flavor of the day' fraud...

Never trust a long string of numbers, that's my motto in life.

I have been scammed for 1000USD here on the forum. I did all the mistakes in the book and will describe the whole incident as a brain hemorrhage on my part. Another guy tried to scam me a second time with pretty much the same methods. My experience is the following: They use American sounding names. They claim to have the jacket you're searching or recommend contacting their buddy that they "know are trying to sell" and direct you to the guy via email. Sales are conducted off the forum.Their initial email address is quite logical (maybe with some extra numbers). The pictures they presented were stolen from other uses on this forum, easy to find online with a simple Google search, but they claim to be the only previous owner of the jacket. They were pretty nonchalant as to the price..."how much are you willing to spend", and the final price really was too god to be true. Payment via PayPal Friends and Family. PayPal account address did not correspond at all to their name or the email they used to communicate previously. They even continued to be assuring after I called the obvious scam and was shocked and appaled by my accusations. So PLENTY (!) of warning signs. Just don't lose your head like me.
