Walmart encounter

I have a few scars on the BACK of my head from being attacked when I was young for being "weird". Yes, I was a Rockabilly/Punk and pink hair wasn't normal in Liverpool. Scared people always jump you from behind
I was once beat up by a 40+ old guy at a bus stop (I was 15 with a mohawk) because I was a "punk" and so was his son, who he obviously disapproved of!!
We often get asked at Viva Las Vegas if there's a John Travolta convention in town!?!?!?!!?
Jeeez!

Wow! Nuts (crazies) are an international phenomenon. :eusa_doh:

Again...Sailor said it best:

"This is a snakeskin jacket! And for me it's a symbol of my individuality, and my belief... in personal freedom."

or maybe the Dude:
"Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man."

Man, what rude places you people all live in!

Here in the "southern US", when I go to a "rural Walmart", I don't even get wierd looks or anything. Now, I never go there dressed to the nines...but I never really go anywhere dressed to the nines. I always dress neatly though, and wear a hat and long sleeve shirt. The most comment I might ever hear is "nice hat"...and they really mean it. I do get questioned sometimes on why I wear a long sleeve shirt in the summer. I simply tell them that it actually keeps me cooler and keeps the sun from burning my lily white arms. The older people around here (particularly farmers) are often seen wearing long sleeve shirts year round, and hats (though generally not nice fedoras) are also still worn. ("Outback" type hats are real popular.)

When you see someone here in a suit and tie, nobody bats an eye. You just presume that they just came from Church, or a wedding or something, or they work in an office, etc.

Hmm, haven't recieved the security deposit yet...

Reading Fatdutchman's post reminded me of when I was in Texas cleaning out hubby's apartment when he deployed to Iraq. Whilst throwing out the sponge I got bleach on my black britches so changed into cutoffs since the dress I had was dirty and already packed anyway. (I had very few clothes at his apartment.) The landlady was coming over to inspect the place. Right after the inspection I hopped into his car to drive home to Rochester, New York. It was late October and getting cold and I felt like a flasher whenever I got out at a rest stop, wearing a raincoat over shorts! So in Arkansas I stopped at a small Wal-Mart, bought a turtleneck and pair of jeans and changed in the dressing room. I had the nice cashier scan the clothes I was wearing, explaining what had happened. No weird looks lol lol . Of course I wasn't dressed up, because it was a long long smelly trip ;)

My brother's girlfriend is almost punky, her style is different but hard to describe, and when faced with a rude comment she'll snicker at the offender, making sure they know it's at and not with them. Other times she's started chanting satanically or barking! and I've mentioned to her that she should try using alka-seltzer to "foam" at the mouth, we both think it would be suitably amusing.

I'll usually comment, to the air that is, on "how amazing it is at how rude some people are," with a rather pointed stare, turn magnificently on my heel, and flounce off.

Fortunately it doesn't happen to either of us often.

I just realized that in my original post, I forgot to mention I was wearing a fedora for the shoot, just a gray one from Anderson-Little, but still. I'd borrowed it from either a female friend or my fiance at the time, forgot whose it was, they each had one, and I treat other people's things even better than I treat my own so I was quite concerned about any yuk landing on it.
